Topic: Going without the Night Nappy Posted: 10 February 2009 at 9:44am |
Ok so I have finally decided try try ditching Keira's night time nappies..... *deep breath*
I am pretty sure she is waking up dry and then is too lazy to actually go toilet so just goes in her nappy. I am hoping not having the nappy there to go in will encourage her to use the toilet first thing.
I have been putting this off for so long and I think it may be setting her back with the whole toilet training process, as she can still quite comfortably wet herself.
I have decided summer is the best time to do it so I am not dealing with trying to wash bedding in rain and there are a lot less blankets to sort out.
My question is, I am not looking forward to having to dry out all the bedding in the middle of the night, does anyone have any tips on making this as easy as possible? Can you get special sheet/matress protectors for toilet training? Keira has just a basic matress protector on her bed but I doubt that will keep her matress very dry in an accident?
TIA

I have & swear by big softies mattress protector. I have used them right from basinette to cot & then bed. You can get them from Baby city or they might also be at Baby factory.
They have bears imprinted on them.

When I took Janaya off night nappies, I just explained to her that from now on she would have to use the toilet at night. I was shocked to find the next day she was dry.. and she has never wet the bed.
We kept a plastic waterproof sheet on just in case, I think we got it from the warehouse.

I quite liked the look of the brolly sheets but I think I may check out the warehouse first.
So I have chickened out and she is still in a night nappy tonight, She is just having one of those nights and it just doesn't seem the right time to start. I think I will get the bedding sorted first and then go for it.

remember when you DO start ,not to be surprised or dismayed if she still has accidents, its harder for them at night because of course they are drowsier, Caitlyn still has the occasional accident, but thats all they are , accidents, its usually not deliberate-it can take years for them to have only dry nights
I knew a charming girl who yelled at her 3 year old for 20 mins for wetting the bed the first night she went without night naps, mind you , she also left her daughter alone in the house for hours on end when she was 6 months so she could go and smoke pot, so she was hardly mother of the year material

Yeah I am expecting accidents. I want to make sure I am well prepared, the last thing I want is for her to wet right through and it to end up all over Maddi Why I definitely need a good mattress protector.

For me when I am going to start I am going to do this. Make bed with mattrass protector then wet proof then sheet, then wetproof then sheet then wetproof then sheet. So at night you just take one layer off if they have an accident and you have 2 more layers to go.

My DD is 10 years old and still has occasional accidents at night. She wore a night nappy until she was about 7-8 because not wearing one just didn't work. I found the best thing was a rubber sheet that you can buy at Payless Plastics by the metre called 'hospital sheeting'. Then we cover that with a folded up sheet/towel/one of those blue hospital covers. It goes across her bed under where her bottom lies. That way if she wets its just a matter of pulling it off and replacing it rather than stripping the whole bed. DD still wears 'Dry Nites' when she has sleep overs at friends place so she nor friend's parents have to deal with accidents.
Good luck.
