Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone else has or is experiencing pregnancy related sciatica and what they are able to do about it?

I have yet to ask my midwife but will do so today.

It isn't the pain and discomfort itself that is the problem - more that it is affecting my sleep (my legs cramp, tingle, burn and go numb in the night). Feeling a bit sorry for myself about the whole thing because I've only had about an hours sleep each night for the past week or two.

Any tips? Suggestions? Treatment ideas?

Thanks all
Bx

A couple of trips to my Osteopath sorted it out for me.

I had for the entire second tri and the first few weeks of the third. I told my midwife i was going to cut my leg off if she didnt fix it

I made a thread about it at the time, trying to find it for you but doesnt help that i spelt sciatica wrong in the title...

I think the advice i was given by everyone was basically the same:

1) see your osteopath (if not an osteo then try physio)
2) go swimming.

I didnt see an osteo but i went swimming a few times and oh my gosh its amazing how much instant relief you can get.

If you can't get in a pool, getting in a bath worked for me, give that a whirl.

A lot of people say that there is no cure until the baby comes out - i hope that isnt really true!

In the end i didnt find any 'magic cure' for it, but it DID go away and that was the best day of my life. Hope yours does too

For me what helped was osteopath visits, acupuncture, massage, swimming, plus calcium and magnesium tablets to help relieve cramps.

My mw referred me to a physio for it which helped and was free. If it gets really bad they can give you a support belt to wear.

Thank you everyone ... MW is looking into physio referrals for me and also suggests applying heat (in this weather I don't know if I can do that) and suggested rolling a tennis ball around on my rump (ouch).

Swimming is definitely on the cards for me! Just need to get some swimmers that fit.

Thank you again for your tips and support!

Hey Jennsta... thanks for that link. It could easily be PGP from what that says. I will raise this with my midwife and with whomever I ultimately end up hopefully being referred to .... in the meantime, will be sleeping on a rolled up towel surrounded by pillows!
