My DS1 25mths is not a 'good sleeper' and never has been. He does sleep though the night completely maybe every second night.
On the nights he plays up he can wake the whole house with this complaint and that. Main complaints are 'blanket' (in the wrong place whether it's on him or not) and 'rabbit' (he's lost his favourite toy, whether he's got it or not). Some nights it's just a single random scream every now and then.

I've wondered if he gets nightmares, which I couldn't do anything about anyway.

I'm never sure if bedding temp is the problem as we never know if it's a night he'll be on top of the bed or under the blankets. (He's not good as staying in one place on the bed, or in one direction but is pretty good as staying on the bed).

Any suggestions welcome

If it is nightmares, then removing cheese and bananas from his diet might be worth a try.

What about trying a night light in his room- this has helped both my kids.

Maybe to address the bedding concern you could try something like this

we've got him in a polar fleece all-in-one, (my guess is) it would be too much when he's under the covers and not enough when he's on top.

Not that its much help but I sympathise. My DD gets nightmares probably about twice a week on average and often does the random scream thing. Its very weird but I think it does have a lot to do with being hot. She was also wearing a polar fleece sleepsuit, but she was often too hot when under the covers. I have gone back to normal PJs in the last few days and now she is waking coz she is cold but no random screams...can't win

Hi IssacsMum. I DREAM of a sleep through every second night haha lol. My DS (19 months) wakes once, twice or three times every night. Has slept through about a dozen times in his whole life.

So I sympathise immensely :-)

Have you tried a sleeping bag? That way they can move around and sleep in all sorts of crazy positions and stay warm. We also have a heater in DS's room, as well as a night light (I try everything )

I second a sleeping bag. DS 20 months loves his and is sleeping great since we moved him into his big boy bed 2 weeks ago. I have short-sheeted the bed so that he cant wiggle down as he somehow managed to turn around and go head first down to the end of the bed and get stuck last week which was horrible. I also have a single bed sheet folded in half length-ways then put width ways across the bed- on top of the blanket and sheet so I can tuck him in more sucurely as the bed sheets dont tuck in much at all, and easily untuck- this holds him in place a lot firmer.

We used a sleeping bag till after the boys were 2 and it worked great. My nearly 3 yo still randomly wakes and cries for his soft toy or has a 'runny nose' but goes straight back to sleep, but he is getting better. He use to have nightmares and night terrors when he was younger but seems to have grown out of them. I always just go in no fuss give him soft toy and just go 'shh, shh, shh", re-lying him down if necessary and leave again. It takes me 5 minutes and I can usually lie down and go straight back to sleep... I decided a while back I preferred to go in quickly and it only takes 5min rather than let him cry and scream and end in me being awake for ages...
Good luck

i took him out of the sleeping bag as i thought it was a bit of a hazzard once he started walking (and mainly falling over) in it.

we have a night light - which we recently changed to a lower bulb as i thought it was too bright

last night they tag-teamed us all night DS1 got both DH & I up more times than I can count and DS2 fed 3 times
