I'm 5 months pregnant now and my 2.5 y.o son thinks he has a baby in his tummy too! When he eats, he says he's feeding his baby. It seems like harmless play to me but DP is trying to talk him out of it, telling him boys don't have babies. Has anyone else's son had similar ideas and how did you handle it?

Yep my DS did this when I was pregnant with DD, and has a little bit this time as well. We didn't really do anything to stop him doing it. This time around we have talked a bit more about that only girls have babies, but it's just about working with their level of understanding. I personally didn't have an issue with it, and would say its quite normal.

Jack as about 2y3m when Ben was born so had a very limited understanding about my pg, he didn't talk about a baby in his tummy but I did give him a doll and he often bf or put it to bed when I did the same for Ben. I would think what your son is doing is normal and just his way of understanding what is happening.
This time Jack is 4yr and he understands alot more and knows that only mummys have babies in their tummies.
Personally I wouldn't worry about it

C was 22 months when D was born so he knew I had a baby in my tummy and was happy pushing his own baby round in a stroller but didn't really get into pretend play back then. My neighbour was pregnant with #2 at the same time and her DS1 is almost a year older than mine. He would talk about a baby in his tummy, he had another wee girlfriend his age who was also expecting a baby sister and SHE had a baby in her tummy too I think it's just an age thing and I wouldn't worry about it at all! They don't really get the concept of boys and girls being "different" at this age My 2.5yr old has been saying "Good boy, Mummy" to me all day today LMAO!

yes my DS1 used to pretend he had a baby in his tummy, sometimes used to stuff his teddy up there and have him in his tummy. And breastfeed him and change his nappy and things. I encouraged that kind of nurturing play by making his teddy nappies and a little nappy bag with wipes, cream etc and a sling for carrying teddy. It's normal, natural play just like pretending to cook or vacuum. They copy what they see.

You can tell him boys don't have babies but that its ok to pretend.
