 Topic: 2 mornings in daycare enough

DS is going to daycare 2 days a week to help with socialisation and English language development as we are a non English household. I am about to have no 2 and we are thinking of cutting daycare down to 2 mornings. My question is this...do you think he would still get enough on the 2 mornings to be beneficial or should we try all we can to keep him there for 2 full days for any real benefit?
Any ideas?

Hmm I would be interested in any opinions. Although my DS has no day care at the moment and I would like to put him in to two mornings a week to get ready for kindy.

I'm taking DD to playcentre/playgroup and it is recommended they go at least 2 days a week as once a week is too long between sessions - 2 sessions however is enough for this age to form relationships with other kids / carers

Depends on what your reasons for cutting him down are I guess?
We have DD going 2 days a week (only cos they are giving us an extra day free until xmas as we have a newborn). She really loves it & its been great for her to spend some time away from me as we have no family in north island & its hard spending 24/7 together sometimes as my DH is away a lot with work. I considered putting her in for mornings only as she sleeps 2-3 hrs in the arvo anyway, but we live 30 mins drive from anywhere & I don't want to spend 'my' time rushing back to pick her up ($25/15mins if we are late) and only having an hour to get groceries etc done. Its nice to spend time 1 on 1 with my 2 wk old, and also I don't want to change DDs life around too much until #2 is a bit older, just to keep her settled. Also its only $12 more for a full day, and no big deal if we pick her up early anyway, cheaper than paying late penalty.
Hope that makes sense, i am a bit sleep deprived!

It is $25 a day less for half day so that's 50 a week and 200 a month which kind of adds up. So if he goes 2 mornings instead of 2 days it will be 100 a week instead of 150 a week.
He goes on two consecutive days which I found worked well. Its been good for him and his English skills so I am keeping him there for half days for now and if I notice some sort of regression I will go back to full days. A friend of mine says her 3,5 year old is completely bilingual and she has been going 2 mornings a week. I just don't want a situation like that with his cousin which turns 3 where she is totally confused when someone talks to her in English as she doesn't understand a word they say, or a colleague of mine whose daughter was completely withdrawn when she started kindy after 3 because she had no idea what was going on around her. That seems unfair to me

At the centre I work at, we encourage a minimum of two sessions a week to help children settle and build relationships

DS is 23 months and is going 2 mornings a week to daycare, 9am-12. This is what he will be doing all next year too, until he is 3yrs old.
I take him to a casual playgroup on a tues morning which is held at a playcentre, and to a music group on thurs mornings- you could attend something like this with both kids- my DD has just started school, but up until then she was also doing to these groups on tues and thurs with us, and attend 3 full days of daycare on mon, wed, fri. It was great having activites to take both kids that they could both enjoy together despite the 3.3yr age gap.

If they are attending till mid day it is pretty much like a full day any way cos at 12 ish they eat, then they sleep then they have period of oh I've just woken up and then about an hour later it is time to go home! So all in all he will prob only miss out on about an hour of interaction by going mornings only :)
