We put dd down for a nap around 12-12.30, after reading her a couple of books and then leave her to it. Sometimes she will grizzle/ cry for a couple of minutes, then will play happily- up to an hour. This is the same at night, we have a bath and then down to bed after stories, between 7 and 730. Tonight it is 9 and she has just stopped playing. She plays in bed with her toys (dolls, teddies)reading books to them.
Just wondering how long your toddlers play in bed.

Hi schnooks. DS goes to bed at night at 7pm and this is time for sleeping not playing and 9 times out of 10 he's pretty good about this. During the day however if I think he needs a wee sleep I put him down but he may quite happily play with his "goofy" soft toy for an hour or so. I figure at least he is getting some time out rest. He doesn't have any other toys in his cot.
Up the Duff with #2. DS turns 3 in July.

Sounds like our wee girl - she goes to bed round 8pm but is often still playing in her bed with her teddys and reading books till 9pm. Also getting up out of bed, changing her nappy, her pjs etc....

My girls have no toys/books in their cots other than their comforters. One falls asleep within a few mins, the other can take up to about 45 mins, just chatting and singing to herself.

DS goes to bed at 7pm and we'll sometimes hear him chatting and playing till around 8ish, never upset and usually doesn't get out of bed, just talking and generally faffing around

Tom (19mths) go to bed around 6.45 and on a good day spends about 30-45mins chattering away and calling out 'ma ma'. He has a couple of soft toys in his cot but those are more for cuddling and when he doesn't want to go to sleep he amuses himself by throwing them all out of the cot (and then yelling out for someone to come and get them). I generally discourage both kids from playing once they are in bed- bedtime=sleeping, in our house.

Thanks for the replies. I used to think bed is for sleeping and not playing- then gradually she took more teddies into bed to her and her bookcase was next to cot/bed (which she just moved into this last weekend) and she would take books off it to read. Have moved bookcase and just left her with a couple of books. She doesn't get out of bed - thank goodness! she just likes to have all her teddies/dolls with her to read to.
As long as she is happy I think I'll leave her to it.
Nice to no others faff around too!
