    Posted: 29 June 2011 at 6:05pm
My 2 year old boy is a fairly picky eater so I have taken to freezing portions of healthy foods he does eat and then heating them for his dinner. My fear is that the freezing then microwaving may be killing off any nutrition in the meals! Does anyone know what the impact of this processing is on the nutritional value of the food? Thanks

I don't know the answer for sure, but I still make up heaps of my son's meals in bulk and freeze them. I do the same - defrost and warm in the microwave. I can't imagine that it does any damage to the food. After all - adults heat and eat all the time?

Don't know the answer for sure either, I do the same as kiwilaurie. But you could try defrosting slowly (take the meal out in the morning ) and then heat up on the stove top? I think if you freeze the meal quickly and then heat in the microwave without plastic (gladwrap etcI you should be fine.

Unless you were heating to the extend that the food was seriously boiling I can't imagine it would have much effect. I know that fats and proteins do break down at high temperatures but if the food has already been cooked can't imagine it would be much different?? I do the same too, cook in bulk and freeze...

Thanks all, sound like lots of us are doing the same with no detrimental effects, so I'll keep going!
