    Posted: 13 June 2011 at 1:46pm
Hi there,
My parents are currently overseas visiting my brother and his wife and girls (6yo, 4yo and 2yo). I am keen for some ideas of activities for my father to do with his granddaughters to develop the bond with them and so he doesn't sit around watching...
Can anybody suggest something?

Cheers,

when my dad was here, he did reading and colouring...played in the garden with them, played with blocks, went for drives in the car

My parents are just around the corner but when we go to visit the boys often help Dad in the vege garden or with little odd jobs, they love to help. Otherwise he often plays with the blocks or the lego with the boys.
Other ideas could be going for walks, to the park, exploring the backyard etc. Might be best to suggest things that your Dad enjoys doing as that will likely be easier for him and more enjoyable

Whenever we visit Grandad he likes to spoil us and takes us out for lunch or coffee and dd loves to order chips with aoli and a fluffy, she enjoys the whole experience as we live in a more remote area. Grandad is also a big gardener and I watched them both last week going around the garden each morning with Grandad talking about what was in the garden etc. Plus reading books is also a favourite. I don't think you need to try too hard as long as Grandad takes an interest in them thats really all they want.
