Topic: cant sleep past 3am! Posted: 07 February 2011 at 7:42am |
*yawn* I sleep fine in the first part of the night (assuming DD doesn't wake up) but come 3am, I get up to go to the loo, get back to bed, settle in and BAM my nose starts playing up. It goes stuffy, then runny, then stuffy again and I have to keep blowing it - this can go on for an hour or so. By then I usually need to pee again, so go do that, then one of my legs goes numb so I can't get comfy again, and I just lie there trying to get to sleep. Usually start drifting off around 5:30-6am, just in time for DD to get up for the day!
Anyone else get things like this keeping them awake?

Happens here, although usually it's thinking that keeps me awake again. There's just too much in my head! Was awake last night from 3-5am, alarm goes off at 6.45 so a bit tired already today.
Don't know what to do with a runny nose, but I have to often read a book as something to focus on (and stop thinking) until I'm almost asleep, then turn off the light again.

Yip 3am here too. Just wide awake at that time for no reason even though I'm still tired. Drive me crazy. Sorry no help with anything though just empathy.
Hmm you could maybe try some vicks on a cloth to clear your nose and see if that helps.

Me too... usually around 3-3:30am (today was 4am!) Just can't get comfortable at night and then when do sleep am awake 3-4hours later. Have worked out rather than fighting it, to just get up. It can be quite a productive time of the night! Usually fall asleep again on couch an hour or so later (doing beached whale impression), or sometimes that's it... I'm up for the day!
I get the stuffy nose thing going on sometimes too. Am guessing it's just to do with the body changes and the hot weather of late. It's certainly tough when working as well, but it seems that's all my body needs at the moment as still functioning okay Luckily DD is 4 years and great sleeper, so no early wake ups if I do go back to sleep.

Ooh... and meant to say, I had it happen around the stage you're at now too.. then slept well overnight until just a couple of weeks ago. Now it's a nightly ritual again as the countdown is on.

Aww no sorry you ladies are going thru this too! Last night I was up with DD from 1:30-3:30am then actually managed to sleep from then till 6am (when she decided it was time to get up for the day *yawn* lol). And I definitely have the racing mind too, can't quiet it down!
Have MW coming this afternoon so will talk to her about it. I was recommended that cherry juice so will have to try that too.
I should just get up and read in the lounge for a bit, as you guys know just lying there trying to get back to sleep doesn't do the trick at all! Hope I grow out of it too for a while Buttons! Hope you don't have too much longer to wait

Yes definately getting up helps me too. I have found the couch for the rest of the night seems to work better than anything else. I think just the change of location helps you to think about different things maybe.

I was like that when pregnant with DS but this time DH has been sleeping in the spare room. It means that I can read a couple of pages when I'm having a hard time getting back to sleep and then I drift right off. There is no way I could turn the light on to read with DH there and if I get up and hang out on the couch I'm usually up for a couple of hours.
Oh the joys of pregnancy
