Who uses what and why?

We made the decision to give our boys cows milk instead of formula thinking it was more natural and possibly better for him. But I've been wondering lately if all the extra things that they get out of formula are more beneficial?

That's exactly what the formula/marketing companies want you to think...
I personally believe that if your child has a varied and balanced diet there is no need for additional supplementation.

Nope once they are 12 months old and eating a balanced diet they don't need any of the 'extras' in toddler milk/formula.

Agree with Mealz its simply marketing.

I originally thought the same thing, purchased a couple of formula sachets to give them a try. Needless to say my 19 month old wouldn't have a bar of it, and went on drink strike. Couldn't understand why, decided to sample what I was giving him and to be blunt, no wonder he wouldn't drink it and ended up to afraid to drink out of the cup I had originally given him. So, cows milk it is lol.

I agree with everyone else. I think the reason we wean babies to food is so they can eat food, not drink formula. My daughter wouldn't even drink cows milk so BF her until she was 18 months and then she just got food and smoothies made with milk. The Plunket nurse said it was fine as long as she got some calcium from other food.

I was given a sachet of toddler milk so I tried it myself out of curiosity and I'm not surprised to hear people's toddlers rejected it. It was revolting. You can really taste the iron in it - it's metallic and horrible.

I would only go with formula if you have a toddler who doesn't eat much. If they have a good diet then cows milk is fine.
