My 3 year old who has always been a pretty good sleeper has recently started to get out of bed in the middle of the night and come into our room. I am always consistent and put her straight back in without talking to her other than sometimes saying, its bed time now. She goes back to sleep with no crying or fuss and goes to bed fine at bedtime, but will sometimes come in 4 or so times a night. She has had alot of changes recently, we moved house, she started kindy and she has a new baby sister. I have tried sticker charts which have no effect on her.... I have just ordered a night light... Any one have any other ideas?? I don't hear a peep from her 3 month old baby sister all night, so its doing my head in a bit

I lock my son in his room. SOunds mean, but to me it's no different to putting him in a cot. Before I did that he would keep coming out over and over, now he asks for it to 'ding' (it makes a ding noise when I lock it), he sometimes tries the door to make sure he cna't open it and then goes to bed. We've had trouble with early wakings in the morning, he's doing better now but sometimes I will hear him try the door quite early (like before 6am), then go back to bed when he can't open it. When he's ready to get up he'll always give us a yell.

We used consequences, so that each time she got up after a reasonable number of times, we would take something out of her room, toys, pretty dresses. She then earned them back one a night on the nights she went straight to bed and stayed there. Took about a week and our sleep out looked like the toy dept in the Warehouse, but we only have to resort to it every now and again since we did it.

We tired the consequences thing when she wasn't going to bed well and it definitely worked our problem now is that she is happy to go to bed, have a quick story and then to sleep no problems but she then wakes in the night and comes into our room... I always take her straight back to her bed and she goes back to sleep fine... I just can't through to her that she needs to stay in bed all night - unless of course there is something wrong... Last night we only had one visit, so I was only up for about 5 minutes, I just can't work out how to stop it all together...

with all the changes you've had I think a period of unsettled sleep is to be expected - esp with you having moved houses and getting a sister. I would reassure her with a cuddle, and take her back to bed. I wouldn't be thinking about punishing her for it, as those changes are huge for a wee one... I'm sure with a bit of reassurence she'll be back to her usual self soon enough...

I agree freckle I really don't want to punish her at the moment what I meant was that we have used the consequences thing ages back when getting to sleep got tricky for awhile... I do exactly that, quick cuddle, back to bed and sometimes say 'its bed time now etc', she does go back really easily...

Love the tape idea rachndean, will give that a go!
