Have just started giving DS snacks and now he haa one of those little coubh things so am putting him on that by the coffee table.
anyway my question is...is this what other mums do or do most put their babies in high chairs for snacks.
if they don't use high chair what non messy snacks do you give or do you just live with the mess or is there a trick?
I hate food mess lol....

No, I can't stand walking around with food either, he stays in his little couch thank goodness but even then sticky fingers on the couch are not my favourite thing....trouble is our high chair is dumbo and the tray table is really high and has a weirdo lean on it...would love to get rid of it and buy a new one but we live in the sticks so not easy.....so anyway, the point is that it isn't great for him to eat food off the tray hence trying the little coffee table.

What kind of snacks are good?

My dd sits on her couch to have snacks and has since 17 months but thats because she only started walking then.

she happily sits there, if she gets up i just ask her to sit on her bottom.

We dont really have any mess. just the odd crumb but i have to vacuum everyday anyway

We bought a little plastic chair from Bunnings and I often sit her at the coffee table in her chair. Otherwise it's on her little couch.

I was wondering exactly this today too! I can't be bothered with the highchair for snacks and I've been trying to encourage him to sit on his little couch (with a towel under him) but he just keeps getting up. I tried the whole sit him back down thing and he just thought it was hilarious and kept popping back up and then got way too excited and started throwing his food around.

I've tried laying blankets down and he seems to crawl/walk off them and almost purposely put the food on the carpet. We're ordering a table and chair set, hoping that is a novelty of some sort?

For snacks I give mini muffins (really messy), rice crackers, fruit or rusks/bread stick things. Even sandwiches as lunch is kind of an all day kinda thing.

I'm thinking of buying one of those little dustbusters to help make it easier to clean up

DS is really good at sitting down eating....is rather amusing really, guess he really likes his food tee hee. Think I might just go with a towel under him....we do have a dustbuster but I ALWAYS forget it is there.,...dumbo me.

We do a mix of high-chair and walking around snacks.
I thought (before baby) that I wouldn't let him walk round and eat, but that high-horse died.

Anyway anything liquid or squishy = highchair.
Walk around snacks can only be things that may be crumby, but dry crumbs - like plain round wine biscuits, plain crackers, weet-bix bites.

I hate food mess as well. Food is to be eaten sitting down. We have little chairs, plastic ones, and a wooden table that DH made (don't have a coffee table).

Or what you can do is get a plastic table cloth & they have to sit on that to eat, fold it up & shake mess outside

We actually got a messy mat for under the highchair and put DS on that a couple of times but he was terrible at sitting on it and would crawl off and it would stick to his legs hehe, so the mat went crawlies too lol.
We went to playgroup today and I was so proud of him coz he sat at the table with all the big kids on a little plastic chair and just ate his food without trying to get off....maybe I should get a little chair for him to sit at rather than fabric couch.

We have a large tray that I can put a selection of snacks on, she sits on her little fold-out couch by the coffee table, which is at just the right height to leave her tray. If she gets up she is reminded in no uncertain terms to sit on her chair or the food is removed. She usually gets things like crackers, fruit sticks (like baked muesli bars, but about the size of your finger, and has fruit on the inside) tiny teddy biscuits, grapes... basically little bite sized stuff that she cant pick up and walk around biting into and leaving mess (but JIC, I have a little dustbuster vacuum cleaner for inbetween vacuums lol)

To get her into the practise of sitting down to eat, we started turning the TV on to some cartoons (up until recently the tv was never on during the day) just to keep her attention on staying in her chair... although lately I've been leaving it on as background noise lol I'm beginning to remember why I love the Playhouse Disney channel

We have a little table and chair set that he loves to sit at, and he knows to eat there. We put a picnic rug under it to catch the crumbs - easy to shake out. If he tries to walk around with food, we let hjim go but take the food off him and put it back on his table! He soon got the message. (we used to just have him sit on the picinic rug, but that didn't work for long!) Oh, and it helps if I pull up a stool and sit there with him too.
