Topic: SPD Posted: 18 May 2011 at 8:00am |
Hi Ladies,
Just wondering if anyone has had/has this condition? I'm 33 weeks now and I've just started finding that I am in alot of pain when I go from a sitting position to standing up and have had alot of pain when walking until I have been on my feet for awhile. Also putting on pants, shoes etc just hurts so much. It was suggested to me that I may have SPD. What do you think? My MW is referring me to a physio to get a support belt fitted but in the meantime I am struggling with simple everyday tasks. It seems to be more than normal pregnancy aches and pains though as it's quite agonising.

I had this with DD. It was horrible. Sounds like you might have it.
Best thing is to get to the physio. Also trying yoga etc might help. Swimming.

just been diagnosed with this and i'm 19 weeks - going to the physio was an amazing help - the belt has already made a huge difference for me.
really do advise you go to the physio as soon as possible (it will cost if you go privately but worth the money spent!)
once your muscles have some additional support then light exercise like water walking or swimming may help as well - that and the use of a heat packs/wheatbag

Mine went away pretty quickly after bubs was born. I spent a lot of time in the swimming pool in the last few weeks to relieve the pressure.
The physio should be able to give you some pointers for making those everyday tasks easier and less painful.
Good luck - not too long to go now!

Have something similar - sacroiliac joint. Yes painful, I went to physio and they gave me some tips and pointers. Not allowed to vacuum and how to get in and out of the car etc.
Hope you get something sorted soon - it is painful fingers crossed.
Oh and I have found yoga helps but so does not doing anything for too long sit for a while stand for a while and lie down for a while but keep rotating them around.

I had it with #2 (DD) and saw Physio which helps & wore a support belt. Pain left as soon as she was born.
Joy oh Joy, have got it again with this one (#3)... started much earlier this time (about 14 weeks I think) but at least I know to go easy on myself. Am currently 23 weeks- have gotten a Smiley belt which helps http://smileybelt.co.nz & saw Osteopath a few days ago which has also helped a lot. Will see physio in a few weeks time as well I think.
There is loads of good info if you google.. things like sleeping with a pillow between your legs- I thought it was a bit early for that but it has made a huge difference in the last week. Also popping a supermarket bag on your car seat to help you swivel & making sure you keep your knees together when you get up.
oh the other night I did some very gentle pelvic lifts and I think that has helped.

I'm 100% sure I had it. I would cry putting my knickers on each day! I told my MW about it earlier on and she kinda brushed it off as regular pregnancy pain..at about 37wks i mentioned it again and my MW sent a referral for physio at the hosptial. I got a call from the physio dept when I was in labour at 41+3
I still get pain in that area and somtimes if I sqeeze my legs together tightly it clicks
So I say to anyone who has SPD pain, get on to it fast! x

I had this from quite early on with the girls, and got my smiley belt when I was 18w. Best things that I found were keeping my legs together when getting into/out of car (so sit down, then swing your legs around when getting in, and wing your legs round and get out with both legs on the ground to get out), the pillow between the legs is awesome, and also, when you're getting out of bed, keep your legs together. I was pretty big, so I would roll onto my side, heave myself up into a sitting position (legs still together) then swing my legs around off the bed. I had it pretty badly - could barely walk by 26ish weeks, if not slightly earlier, even with the belt. One other thing that was really good for it was aquanatal classes - the water takes the weight off, which eases the pressure on your pelvis. It was the only time I could ever walk somewhat normally - straight after being in the pool. My pelvis hasn't gone back to normal, but it's close. I still get pain even now, but nowhere near as bad.
