Hi all just wanted to know how soon can you have the baby christened? our baby is not due till Feb 2012 but alot of my family will be here from overseas for a family wedding end of Jan 2012 and they would like me to have it when they are here. I know you can really do it when ever, but i am worried about baby being late and maybe only a few days old if i book it all in. Is it ok to take the baby out side in the first few weeks he/she is born? I remember some of my older family saying you should not take the baby out side for the first 2 weeks?

Thanks

LOL how are you supposed to get them home from the hospital unless you are having a homebirth.

I guess the best idea would be to ask the church & find out what their recommendations are.

You can get a baby christened whenever you like...you just need to arrange it with your church.

I took DS out at 4 days. Still had to get grocceries and pay bills etc. it used to be that a woman had a baby and stayed home for the first 2 months and some people still have that sort of view. It is really up to you. My son is now 15 and certainly didn't suffer for it. Infact he is very independant.

As for the age of a christening I am not sure. I would not be putting too much pressure on yourself though.

Baby will be fine to go out of the house, especially if it is just to Church for a few minutes. It will be more difficult for you to get going and get out of the house, also what sort of expectations do you have for a celebration afterwards? We had afternoon tea at home after DD's Baptism and I sure as anything wouldn't be preparing all that while she was only 2 weeks old. But if your family are going to organise it.

For technical reasons you will need to ring your Church and find out what is required. We had to attend a course for two Sunday evenings before DD could get Baptised in our local Catholic Church.

I think most babies would be fine to go out at a few days old, but if you have a difficult labour, you might not be keen or even able to for a week or two. Personally I'd want to wait a good 10 days post birth, but if you had plenty of people to do all the work for you it might be ok earlier?
