Thomas is on antibiotics AGAIN *sigh*.
He wont take them from a spoon so I tried offering him a treat for afterwards, no dice. We tried holding him down and making him take them - he just spits it back out. So then i got a plastic syringe and tried squirting it down the back of his throat slowly whilst holding him down - he throws it back up. I'm gonna have to go back to the DR and get some more because we wasted so much of it trying to get the damned stuff in him.
Any suggestions? I've even resorted to taking a bit myself to show him that it tastes nice (suprisingly it does!) i've even mixed it in with a bit of food and he bloody knows! GRRR.
I just dont have time to muck around with him being so silly! i'm almost wasting 30 mins 3 times a day trying to get it into him :( very very stressful for the both of us :/

I so feel your pain

Rhiannon is excatly the same, and its only in the last 6mths we have been able to get her to take her meds if she needs them.

Go back to your doctor and tell him what is happening and ask for suggestions.

Can you mix it in with Juice?

That's what we did with Coloxyl when we had to give it.

This will sound strange - but when we have problems with O taking ab's we get "Dr Elmo" to help us - we pretend that Dr Elmo is holding the syringe and he helps us give the medicine....it works wonders!

H will sometimes drink is from a little medicine cup - you know those little 15 mL plastic cups you get with some meds. He'll also have it from a syringe but only when standing up... weird.

Otherwise (when he is really sick and fed up with everything) I hold him down and force it into his mouth using a medicine spoon... HATE doing it as he gets so upset but it does get the meds down.

You could try mixing it into his bottle if he still has them or spoon feed it to him?

We mixed Amelia's medicine into her yoghurt. I did it when she couldn't see me - like took the cover of the pot off partially and put it in and then put the cover back over the pot. So time for yoghurt and I opened up the pot (just like a new one) and she ate the yoghurt!!

I think the tangy taste of the yoghurt seems to mask the medicine. Also it's a great way to get the penicillin in as aren't you supposed to have it with food???

I just had this conversation with my doctor today - he apparently had a son who hated taking any form of medicine.
We got told to use the long tapered syringe with a bulb on the end - not the push one if that makes sense.   He said to push it in so it is level with the back of the teeth/gum area on the side of the mouth between their cheek and teeth so they can't use their tongues to work or spit it back out of their mouths, and then let 1ml at a time trickle down behind the teeth and tongue. Apparently it forces a swallow without effecting the gag reflex. It sounds complicated, but seemed to be pretty easy in the end and worked a treat this afternoon   Good Luck!

You can try letting them suck on an ice cube for a few moments before giving the medicine. The ice cube numbs the taste buds so the bad taste isn't as noticeable

Mix some in with some puree apple, you know the little goldburn(?) pots, and do it when he isnt looking and then just peel the lid of "like normal". that might work?
