DS had his first ear infection a few weeks ago when he had a cold.

Weeks later he is still complaining of sore ears and also still night waking.

I took him back to the dr's yesterday and was told he doesn't have an ear infection anymore.

Dr said to continue with ibuprofen and pamol and if still sore in a week or two to go back. I don't like giving pain relief willy nilly especially when I don't know whats wrong. It does help though.

So....why does he have sore ears, is it is teeth?? If so, this has been going on for weeks and weeks now!

Plus the dr didn't say anything about this. I also can't get a good look inside DS's mouth to check it out

My poor boy

Anyone else have ideas or similar thing happen??

tooth pain is often be confused for ear ache... I'd say if his ears are clear then it is likely his teeth... poor boy

I would say its his teeth too.

I took my DD to the dr friday night as she had a very high temp and was really hot( she has a cold too)
He looked in her ears and one of them was a bit swollen, I decided to wait and see how she went over night before we gave her antibiotics.
That night she was SO upset and also had a red cheek the side of the sore ear.
next morning she had cut her first top tooth the side of the sore ear and red cheek, and she was fine by that lunch time.

So Id say it is most likey a molar coming in.

Both my kids have had ear infections that have turned into Glue Ear which can be really painful especially when they are lying down. Did the doctor check to make sure there was no fluid behind the ear drums? Just a thought as it can take weeks to get rid of it

The dr said he definately couldn't see an infection. Do you think that it could look normal in the ear but fluid behind something he couldn't see??
I am so confused on what to do next.

my girl is now on number 11 since january .... they had to make sure it wasnt teeth realated....with the looking in mouth..you may not see anything as for months the teeth move under the gums and this is the painful bit....would yoiu use bonjela? i dont like using it but it does help...i too dont believe in using too much pain relief (kids dont like it anyway) mia sucks on cold flunnel sometimes i put it in the fridge....seems to put her right to sleep sucking on that thing...........as for fluid......he will be able to see it and if its really bad like my sons was then it oozies out.....honestly sounds like teeth but if your worried (i always) take them to another doc...mia got checked when she was in hospital they said no infection then back to normal gp and he said fluid...so there you go....it never hurts and if they sa=y it all good then you are a happy camper :-) goodluck

Hope he feels better soon.

Just wanted to add re. ear pain, that DS has just had an ear infection and I was told by the dr that pamol isn't strong enough for ear pain and to use ibuprofen. Which was great to know as I was just using pamol and DS was miserable and still feverish.
