Topic: OBs in Wgtn? Posted: 26 June 2011 at 10:19am |
As the topic suggests really - any recommendations/reviews/experiences with wellington obstetricians would be very much appreciated! I'm in the Eastern Suburbs so would prefer city/south.
Thanks!

I've heard awful things about anju bassu too. Mr sengali delivered our ds at the hospital, was a bit abrupt with my midwife but was fantastic and stayed very calm when things got tricky. I also had a few appointments with Jeremy toohey early in my pregnancy and thought he was great.

I saw Anju Basu at the start of the my pregnancy and do not recommend her. I actually got taken off her by my gynaecologist and one of the obstetricians due to how she managed my care. My obstetrician was lovely but doesn't work privately.
Dr Langdana is lovely and I think he does private care.

I'm under Val Schenk (Specialist Maternity Services)- I haven't met her yet, I will be 10 weeks along at the first appointment. As we haven't told many people at all I haven't been able to ask around for recommendations so fingers crossed.

We used Dr Sangalli (he's Swiss) he was great. He is in Newtown right next to the hospital. Fills up very quickly so I would ring right away.
He won't do a waterbirth if you are thinking you want one of those! Too messy ;)
He was great at getting me an epidural FAST when I needed it.

I'm with Michel at the moment and find him excellent. His lady at his rooms is lovely to deal with as well (at reception as far as appointments and liaising with her goes). I'm not delivering this one (elective c-section) for another month, but feel very confident. And hey, an indication of how much experience he has/how good he is - he told us accurately the sex of this baby with confidence at 11 weeks Gotta love that. He has really good equipment, and if he's not happy with the info he's got, he'll spend time to reassure himself (baby wasn't very compliant at our 20 week scan, so while waiting for a follow-up scan, he spent time looking at her heart etc to satisfy himself that she was in fact perfectly fine). WOuld definitely recommend him - money well spent IMO.

Hi, there are not many obstetricians in Wellington. For my first we went with Fali Langdana, he was excellent. This time around we are going with Val Schenk, haven't meet her yet, but she has the same lead midwife that Fali had and she is awesome. Her name is Marg and I can't speak highly enough of her. Good luck :)

Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate your replies. I am booked with Val Schenk (haven't met her yet). According to my GP, Fali Langdana and Anju Basu have both stopped practising (other than completing current patients). So now there are only 2 OBs in Wgtn!

Hey Pumpkino - when do you have your first appointment with Val? I'm meeting her on Thursday afternoon, so if you haven't seen her before then I can let you know how I go.

So I had my first appointment with Val yesterday, and she's really lovely. What was a nice unexpected surprise was that she gave me another quick scan. So yeah - two thumbs up from me
We feel quite lucky as well, as there are only 2 private obstetricians in Welly central now. Bonus for us that she's so lovely.
Hope your visit goes just as well.
