Hey lovely ladies,
If you ever wanted to be super glad that you gave/will give birth in NZ and not the States check out this thought provoking (albeit rather biased) documentary - I was riveted, amazed, inspired and disgusted all at once

Yeah I have seen it but I already knew how crap America is about the birthing process. Over there it is a medical procedure that needs to be monitored and regulated and if you dont do things exactly like they want in the time frame given then they just C-sect you.
Its so sad that people allow it to happen. Luckily alot of people after having a terrible first birth experience go on to do more research and often end up having a hoome birth or a drug free/ non intervention hospital birth, and as a result the home birth rates are soaring.
I am glad we live in a country that still has midwives and doesnt want to outlaw them (like australia).

You guys should read Birth and breastfeeding by Odent, found it in my local library, it's an interesting read of how a ob/dr has set up a birthing unit that works on least intervention/privacy & what can happen when this happens, really interesting what our bodies are capable of & how they shut down when birth becomes a public arena.

I watched this a couple of years ago and having lived in the States I can tell you I would never give birth there! My sister in law had a natural, drug free labour at hospital (cause get this...home birth is illegal in the State I grew up in as is...wait for it...BREASTFEEDING in public!! )...anyway, people were always like "Why would you do it naturally?" Most of my friends have ended up with Ceasars and I HIGHLY doubt they were medically necessary. I am in love with the system over here.

Mollycat, if you read the book I mentioned you'll understand why they end up with more caesars over there.
It also made me realise why I don't want a home birth. My house is to "exposed"
