DD is turning 3 in a few months and has always been a fantastic eater until recently. She is great at breakfast and lunch but often won't eat her dinner unless we feed it to her. I've stopped giving her afternoon tea to see if that helps but it hasn't. I always eat with her and some nights DH is there too. She seems to be more interested in talking to us than eating so ends up running out of time to eat anything (I mean 30-40 mins at the table).

I guess I just want to find out if other people have had this and whether it just came right or they have any magic solutions.

Might be an age thing. Daniel has become a shocker for dinner too. He has to eat whats on his plate by himself in a reasonable time frame or he gets nothing. We don't really have conversation while eating to try and avoid distractions

We've not got his at the moment, my boy troughs like a pig all day long. But when he was a bit younger we found he wasnt' really hungry at dinner time so we switched the meals around and did dinner at lunch time and lunch food for dinner time, that way he got one decent meal and then if he only picked at his sandwiches/toast etc at dinner time it didn't matter cos he had already had a good meal.

No help at all really ...... but Jake has been a bit fussy with dinner for a long time and he also mucks around and talks thru dinner time now (talks thru everything actually!). He can take up to an hour! I bribe with dessert. and have put the microwave timer on a few times to hurry him up. He's also started the "help me" thing - after my mum helped him to hurry him when we stayed with her recently -- that started after Morgan went on solids too, so I was assuming it was a regression / phase.

Good to know that this isn't unusual. I think we're finding it extra-annoying because she used to be so good. I might have to think more about giving her a really good lunch so that I'm not getting so hung up on dinner.

Nikki - sounds like exactly the same deal in your house. I've tried bribes and timers..

I was told never to fight over food issues - because you will always loose and it's one of the few things that they can control. Also you need to look at the total food intake over a week to see if there is an issue.

So easy to say not to worry but I know that I do myself!   If you are worried after checking her food intake please see your GP. There are liquid vitamin and mineral drops that you can get so you know that she is getting all that she needs.
