Hi everyone,

I am not too sure what to do as I am pregnant (about 8 weeks) and need to get onto finding a midwife but we are planning on moving up north in March next year (when I will be about 20 weeks). Do I need to get a midwife for in Auckland and in Whangarei? Can anyone recommend a good midwife in the Whangarei area, I have been searching the forums but cant seem to find much for up that way. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks :)

You wont have a lot of visits to you midwife in the first 20 weeks, and could get the first blood forms and scan referral from your GP.
I would concentrate of finding a midwife in the area of Auck u will be moving to, and u may be able to get them to send u the blood forms and make appts to see them for when u will be down in auck looking for houses etc before u move. U usually only see a midwife monthly for at least the first 20 weeks, so as u are already 8 weeks u would prob only be seeing the current one 3-4 times before u move anyway.
Midwives everywhere get booked quick, so u may already find it hard to get one.
Another option is to go to hospital midwives- u will see a diff one from the team at your appts and the midwife on duty at the time will deliver baby.

I will be moving cities at 22 weeks pregnant and I booked in midwives in both cities at 8 weeks. The first midwife will give u all your notes to bring to the new midwife when u move. It's worth booking now I think in case they get full up and it's hard to find one later

With my last pregnancy I moved from Auckland to Christchurch at 36 weeks, so alot futher along than what you are going to be. We werent sure if we would be moving so early on I arranged to meet a MW in Chch when we down for the weekend (around 12 weeks) and then had a MW in Auckland that I saw regularly. Then when we left Auckland I just got all the notes to hand over to my MW in Christchurch. I think if you can get it all arranged now it will be one less thing you have to worry about.
