Hi there I am currently 7w 4d pregnant and am taking progesterone suppositories due to a problem with the lining of my uterus breaking down to early and preventing implantation. My fertility specialist has said to stay on them until 8 weeks and then ween off for 4 days. I am concerned that this is too soon though as I have read a lot that staying on them until 12w is advisable to ensure that the placenta has taken over the role of producing the progesterone fully. Does anyone have any experience with this at all please that they are happy to share? I really don't want to stop too early and risk things going wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think I used them until 11wks with DS then weaned off them for the next week. They certainly don't do any harm so if you are happy to continue using (and paying ) for them then I would just tell your spec that you would like to keep using them. I didn't use them in early pg this time but have been using them from about 17wks as there have been studies done to show they can be effective at preventing preterm labour. I'm going to use them until about 36wks but only 1 a day so it's not breaking the bank too much lol. GL

MIW - you could ask them to do a blood test to check your progesterone levels before weaning off to be super sure you are producing adequate levels yourself now. That is what they do for IVF pregnancies and there is a big variation as to when this happens for each individual, for example I weaned off at only 5 weeks pregnant, others took for over 12 weeks. All the best!

I was on two a day until 10 weeks, then 1 a day until 12 weeks.

I was really nervous coming off them, as it was like a security blanket - after three miscarriages, I needed something to help bubs make it.

But they made me SO pukey, that it was great coming off them.

With my first pregnancy I was on them until about 12 weeks and then completely off them and the tablets I was on by 14 weeks. This time I was told to start weaning at 10 weeks and was finished by 11 weeks. I agree with Kelzie Rose, that it is scary coming off them.
