Is anyone using one - or considering using one as support for their birth?

I totally would (i'm not preg, but have thought a bit about what i'd like for the next birth). I hadn't really considered it until we had a Doula facilitate our SPACE session - I asked her 101 questions and was totally sold on the idea. I think i'd also go for a homebirth next time so I think they'd be great in that circumstance.

Purely out of interest, can I ask why you're asking (hope that doesn't sound rude)? I assumed when I saw the title it was someone considering one for themselves - but when I saw your signature I was a wee bit surprised - perhaps you're keen to get some ideas on how they're viewed in general?

I had a "birth support" partner at my sons birth as I had no partner. While she fulfilled the role that the father should have, I think she was way better as she understood what I was feeling and knew better what massage etc helped. She also was able to answer questions I had and lots of other little things.I'm guessing a doula would do much the same, so I'd be all for it!

I can imagine a Doula would be awesome for the fact they are experienced when it comes to birth support. If I didn't have DF or feel comfortable with family or friends I am sure I would use one.
