Since thursday night, we've benn battling with Ryan at sleep times. He woke up screaming at 8pm after being asleep for an hour. He;d refused to go back to sleep for 2 hours after cuddles, a bottle, pamol, we tried all our normal things to get him to sleep. Eventually he ended up sleeping on me in the spare bed, until I had to get upr to feed our daughter. Which woke him up again crying and screaming.

He's done it every night since and is now in his cot protesting his day sleep which never happens. He does have a cold that arrived this morning which maybe the cause of it.

He's always bene a good sleeper. Ever since he was a NB he'd sleep within a half hour or less.

I can't deal with this as well as the new baby.

No real advice as i am not in the same situation . . .

However, I do know that DD is terrible for going to sleep if we have guests over or she thinks something exciting is going on that she will miss.

Maybe Ryan is a bit jealous of his new sister being up with you when he is in bed, and he thinks he is missing out on something??

Just an idea - hopefully somebody will be along with more advice who has the toddler and new baby thing goin on too!

Hope things improve for your soon

Hmmm, we went through a phase like this a while ago, it passed, nothing we did really helped or stopped it, impossible to know if he was ill/teething etc.

However one night last week we had visitors with two small boys and although he was tired and asked for bed, screamed for 2 hours on being put to bed, in the end I just stood next to his cot with my eyes closed and he went to sleep.

Big hugs, it will pass whatever it is thats causing it.

aw man that must be so hard when you have such a young baby to deal with as well

My 18 month old has been doing a similar thing for coming up 2 weeks now and it's exhausting. She had been a good sleeper for many months before this latest hurdle. She has always been really into her routines and I think she's not getting into the habit of waking up and not going back to sleep without cuddles. I haven't really figured out how to stop it yet, so don't have that much advice.
What I have found has helped the most is to keep an eye on the clock. Sometimes I find that I feel like I've left her crying for ages but it's only been 3 or 4 minutes.

I wonder if, like SusieC said, it's because of the new baby? Kids have funny ways of acting out their frustrations.

I really wish I had a better answer for you. Hang in there hun! And make sure you're getting as much rest as you can in the meantime til this passes- sound like you have a lot on your plate!
