Wow thats pretty clever Hollywood

Gabrielle is only just starting to talk so nothing like that here. She does scream animal sounds at me when we see various animal or pictures of them particularly sheep and cows, but nothing like doing colours.

Good on her for being potty trained too

Edited to remove paragraph about how clever my wee lillibit is, as I don't feel the need to boast.

Every child is different, just because they excell in some areas does not make them a brainiac. My girl struggles with some physical activities that other children her age are great at, and has a few personality quirks that slow her down with interpersonal relationships. My advice would be to look at the whole picture, nourish and nurture her talents, and don't push her into things she may not be ready for just because of how clever you think she is.

There are no negative comments being made, just your interpretation of them.

I had read your post, and to be honest, it did come across as a bit too much.

As others probably think, each child is different and special in their own way. Some might excel at physical activies and still be a little behind the 'norm' in fine motor skills or knowing their colours, and some might be really clever with words, colours, drawing etc, but can't jump with two feet. This does not make them any smarter/stupider than any other child out there.    And when they get to a certain age, they can all jump, read, write, sing, recognise colours, shapes etc.   Not everyone is good at the same thing and that is just life.

Your child is special to YOU and your family, as other peoples children are special to them.   And this is going to sound really harsh, but comparing your child with the abilities of other children is only going to disappoint her and you, and annoy other people.

I don't find it annoying at all that you shared how well ya wee one is doing... I think it is perfectly natural to wanna share how great ya child is, no matter what it is they excell in... it's much better to focus on all the great things your kids can do than to focus on weaknesses... I don't think people should compare as there is a huge range of development that is perfectly normal but if you're proud of ya wee one what is wrong with sharing that with other mums... I would never ever feel disappointed in my children if they weren't at the same level cos to me they're perfect and brilliant...
mum to 3 lovely girls :D

From your original post your wee one sounds advanced for her age and a lovely girl.

I didn't post back as I too don't like comparing and contrasting babies / toddlers as it can lead to all kinds of paranoia etc. That doesn't mean i saw your post as 'wrong' or 'bad' - just wasn't the kind of thing i could think of any response to.

You have every right to be very proud of you daughter, just as I am of mine.

Please don't take the lack of responses or comments as negative - and stick around on Ohbaby - lots of lovely posters here

thanks to those who wrote nice comments :)

was not boasting, was genuinely interested to hear from other mothers on what their toddlers were up too.

regarding this:

As others probably think, each child is different and special in their own way. Some might excel at physical activies and still be a little behind the 'norm' in fine motor skills or knowing their colours, and some might be really clever with words, colours, drawing etc, but can't jump with two feet. definately was not my intention to think of children as being stupider or smarter than other children.

was just sharing what my little girl was up to, wanting to know what other little ones were up to.

this will be my last post on these forums, shame really.
