and I dont know how I feel about it.

I wanted to be off the boob at 12 months. I started offering cowsmilk from various drinking vessels from 11 months but it just didnt happen and we got to 12 months with me still giving 3-4 feeds during the day and 1 at night. I figured, oh well, its not bothering me so we'll just keep going.

He's ok if we miss a feed. Last night I went out and DH had to put him to bed, which he did no problem. I got home at 8pm and he woke up so I thought I'd go in and give him his feed. When I picked him up he reached for his sippy cup of water and I gave him that and he was happy and then pointed to his cot. I put him down and he rolled over and went to sleep. I stood there astounded!! He didnt want boob!!

So then I got to thinking. Someone on here said you should "not offer, but not refuse" and I wonder if I have been offering it so he takes it (what male says no to a boob in their face?) but maybe he isnt asking for it. Yesterday he had a tiny feed in the morning when he woke...but he pulled off early to play with some toys. Then he was at daycare so didnt have a mid morning feed. Had a good one in the afternoon before his (failed) afternoon nap and then non at night....AND...slept through till 6am when he had a quick feed and back to sleep till 7.

I havent fed him today apart from a 1 min feed at a friends house because he was overtired and had lost the plot...I dont even think he would have got the let down happening.

Is this self weaning? Should I try to keep up some feeds? Or should I just stop it?

I really dont know how I feel about it and I dont know why I feel a little sad?

Those of you who weaned at 12 months...did you notice an increase in your energy afterwards?

Does he need milk? He has milk on his weetbix, cheese in his sandwiches, yoghurt at lunch time, the odd icecream or milky dessert. Do you think that is enough for now? I will of course keep pushing hte milk in a cup thing as a drink option...I think its a good option.

I know how you feel Nikki, when the idea was thrown around of me giving up I was really in a no idea place about the it. One half of me thought it might be better for him but the other was not wanting to finish that special relationship we've got going on. To be honest at the start I thought it was really weird feeding a boy.

You could throw a formula feed in there if you think he's not getting enough nutrients? I think at this stage with Alia I was down to only 3 feeds a day.

A formula feed....hahahahahahahahahahahahaha....we bought a tin months ago and barely touched it. The boy wont have a bar of it.   I will keep persevering with offering him glasses of milk. I would like him to enjoy milk the way Tom does.....and he only has it some days.

I'm pretty sure he's getting enough nutrients. I actually think he has just been "drinking" for thirst more than anything else.
