Im due with our second baby in mid January.
With DD, I was induced but either way was 20 minutes from the birthing centre or the hospital if I had gone naturally. We had family and close friends within 2 minutes of us if DH happened to not be around, family took over farming duties so DH didnt need to worry (they were on the neighbouring farm) and since we had no other kids there wasnt that to deal with.
Since then, we have moved. We are now 40 minutes to the birthing centre and just over an hour to the hospital. Family and friends are anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour as well. We also dont have any friends around this area and are in the middle of trying to find a relief milker that we can call at the last minute but either way, DH wont necessarily be able to leave the farm at a moments notice.
Also, because of how things went with DDs birth, I would much prefer to be in the hospital than the birthing centre. Both are booked so we have the option to head to the BC if things are moving really quickly but my mw fully agrees that the hospital is what's best for me.
So considering all the above, we have started talking about what we are going to do especially in relation to a carer for DD, when to head in and where to head to (dont want to go to hospital too soon). My thought is to head to my parents house (40 minutes) when I know things are happening and labour at their house until I need to go elsewhere (which would then be 5 minutes to birthing centre, 20 to hospital) but I am getting anxious as we get closer that DH will end up delivering this baby in the car on the side of the road with DD in the back because we havent left soon enough, or that he wont be able to leave when I need to due to the farm, or that I will be hanging around my parents house for days....
Anyone been in a similar position and able to ease my worries a bit? Or suggestions on what we could do??
In some regards the homebirth option crossed my mind (would solve some of the issues) but not really interested in that as an option, again because of how things went with my DDs birth.
Thanks
