Topic: scan dates vs original dates Posted: 07 April 2009 at 5:33pm |
Just curious... can you read anything into scan dates that are measuring a bit ahead. My 12 week scan came back with bubs measuring a wee bit ahead and then 21 week one was measuring about a week ahead of the original 9 week dating scan. I really want bubs to be early...

The dating scan (the early one) is the most "accurate".
Issy always measured ahead and was still two weeks late

I second this. My first scan with Astin gave me the exact date that i had already worked out because we knew exact date of conception (well exact date of BD!) then every scan after that was showing me to be 3 weeks ahead!!! and in the end i was induced because his tummy and liver were measuring very big but turned out he was just huge baby!! so id say you just have big bubs on board

I had three scans throughout pregnancy, all said I was due 18 March which was also my LMP date.. (strange I know, my MW said it was definetly a novelty!)
Novella was fully engaged for 4 weeks prior to this date and I still went over by 8 days and I ended up taking castor oil cause I was so sick of waiting... I'm sure that if I didn't take things into my own hands I would have been induced.. sooooo what I suppose I'm saying is bubs will come when s/he is ready - (I know, I wanted to punch people when they told me that!)

My MW (well, from when I had a midwife) said the earlier the more accurate. And added that generally babies are the same size until they reach 16 weeks and then it's all over the place.

Hannah's LMP EDD was 27th Jan
Her 11w2d scan and her Anatomy scan gave her EDD as 21st January.
I kept my EDD at 27th Jan (in my own head, and the MW did the same) and she came on the 26th.
So to me she was a day early, according to her scans she was 5 days late.
I definitely preferred to have her "a day early"

I was told by my MW that the earliest scan is the most accurate esp if done between 7-9 weeks as there is much less vaiable with measuring as they still look like a kidney bean
After that they can tuck heads under or extend necks etc that all alters the measurements slightly which can put dates out.
My LMP date is the 16th October
8 week scan is the 15th October
10 week scan was the 11th October
12 week scan was back to the 15th October
SO, I am due the 15th October

Yep earlier the better. My EDD with Jack was 15/12/07, luckily I had an early scan as my EDD was moved to 4/1/08 I ovulated very late! And he came on the 7/1/08 so about on time really.

Bumping this thread (by 2 and a half years!)
My scans are conflicting to all the above info.
LMP date is 9th June
First scan i had was when i should have been 7 weeks by LMP date, put me back 1 week which made me 6 weeks and a new due date of 16th June.
Second scan i had was when i should have been 9 weeks by LMP date, or 8 weeks by first scan date, but put me waay back again and dated me at 6 weeks 6 days, and a new due date of 24th June!
Has this ever happened to anyone before? Because i am almost certain that that last scan is way off. I only took a pregnancy test because i was 10 days late for AF and was super nauseous/tired. So i wouldve been around 3 weeks somewhere when i tested (which was a super dark- before the control showed up kinda positive) and i don't think symptoms like that could show at 3 weeks (let alone a pregnancy test)

KAH, -
My LMP with DS gave me an EDD of the 30th Nov
Dating scan gave me a EDD of 23rd Nov
12 week scan gave me an EDD of 3rd Dec
My ob/gyn (who did the scans) said it can vary because if he is even a mm out on where he measures it can change the EDD by several days. He told us to stick with the dating scan date of 23 Nov and DS arrived arrived happy and healthy on the 24th. He had measured behind throughout the entire pregnancy btw. (We had monthly and then fortnightly scans throughout) He was 3.2kg born, so a lovely size!

With DD my LMP gave me an EDD of 9th May
12 week scan gave me EDD of 19th May and they couldnt get the right measurements so I had to go back 2 weeks later when I was '12 weeks' according to the scan.
From 28 weeks on, I was measuring 2 weeks ahead
DD arrived on 12 May so 1 week early and my MW confirmed when she came out that she did indeed look 1 week early and not 3 days late as my LMP dates suggested. My MW told me early on that I probably just OV'd later that month.
ETA - I had major symptoms from very early on, I POAS early and already knew I was UTD without even looking at it. To then find out I was 10 days behind I though it was highly unlikely because of my early symptoms and the early test. I guess I was wrong but I did take some satisfaction that she came early and closer to my EDD than the scan EDD haha
With DS my LMP gave me a date of 7th January
Dating scan said 14th Jan
Measured a few days ahead most of the time
He arrived on 20th January

The early scan is the one you go on.
If they measure ahead later on it just means that they are bigger or smaller than average. It doesn't mean they will come any sooner or later

I was the opposite, my LMP gave me a date of the 8th of October.
Early scan gave me date of 8th of October
12week scan gave me a date of 1st of October (so as it was more than 7 days out they changed me due date but I could never figure it out as it meant I would have ovulated CD9)
20weeks scan put my due date at 23rd of September.
He came on the 30th September after a sweep, but I still reckon that he wasn't due until the 8th, he was just a big baby.

for us i was on clomid and charting, so I knew my DD was 24 december, and this is what we went by with the MW, tho the scan (at 7wks) said 27th december, and the entire pregnancy i was measuring ahead- as far ahead as 3 weeks at one stage near the end, but my DD still arrived (despite 4 Sweeps, and trying EVERYTHING else there is apart from induction) on the 6th January (13 days overdue!) and wasnt as big as everyone warned me she would be at all! :) i hope you do go on time for bubs and your mum is there, just know there aint a heck of a lot you can do if bubs doesnt want to show up, no matter what others say..bubba will come in its own time. is there any chance your mum can extend her stay with you- just incase? more babies come late than early, especially first bubbas, and i dont know your situation, but they wont induce you until at least 10days overdue if the pregnancy and baby have been healthy. dont want to freak you out or anything lol, but just so you know :) good luck and i hope you have a lovely rest of your pregnancy x x

Hi
Im new to this forum...Im a little confused with my dates as my LMP gave me a due date of 01 April 2011, which was confusing as my LMP was actually a miscarriage. My 12 week scan which came out as me being due 7th April, so I was about 11 weeks when I had that and yesterday I saw my midwife and she made a few noises about my stomach being higher for being nearly 21 weeks?? Being my first pregnancy I dont understand some of this.

Hi Guest
Congrats on your pregnancy!
When I got pregnant with DS, my LMP was also a miscarriage so the dates were kind of up in the air. As I said above, my LMP dates said EDD 7th Jan, dating scan said 14th Jan and he ended up arriving on 20th Jan. I measured ahead in both pregnancies, DD
moreso but that was because she was a big baby
In my experience having my LMP and Scan Dates so different both times, I'd be inclined to stick to the scan dates as both of mine were more accurate in the end.
All the best for the next few months!
