Topic: Due December - Midwives all on holiday! Posted: 19 May 2012 at 12:40pm |
I'm new to this. My first baby is due on 21 December. I am freaking out because the list of midwives I have been given are all on holiday! Anyone got any suggestions?

I had the same problem, DD was due 17 Dec... I just kept trying... you may have to go further from home to find someone... there are some MW that work over xmas especially... cant recommend my MW sorry, as she is retired now.
I went to Birthcare after delivering and the MWs there were fantastic...

Yeah am thinking about Birthcare - only worry is if I need a doctor or epidural its into an ambulance and off to the hospital!

But its only 2 minutes to the hospital and you could probably choose to birth at the hospital anyway? My mw is at Botany Birth unit but Im birthing at Middlemore with the hospital mws

I have used the Birthcare team both times, they are great! I'm due any day now and due to bubs measuring so big I am giving birth at the hospital this time around.
I managed at Birthcare last time with no issues - I'm sure you could do the same!!

I had the same thing with an early Jan baby - just keep looking. It got really frustrating, when I'd called 10 midwives and none were available

I had the same problem being due 24th december last year. I was recommended a couple of midwives but they were on holiday so I asked them to recommend someone and kept doing that until I found someone who said yes. Took about 8 phone calls I think.
Good luck

I'm due on 8th December and I'm under the MW at Birthcare. I believe they only take on people intending to birth at Birthcare but they do transfer you to Auckland Hospital if you end up wanting an epidural or if anything isn't quite right. I'm not actually too sure what happens if you have to give birth in hospital (induced or complications etc). Hmmm....I guess I better ask!

If the worst came to the worst can you go with hospital midwives?

Hi Ladies,
Now you are freaking me out. I am due 2 Jan 2013 and currently living in Singapore. I really want to move home prior to baby arriving and give birth there. I think I will need an Ob though as that is what you have to have over here so just easier. I want a hospital delivery and then off to birthcare. Can you please advise how I should look for an OB and arrange the time at birthcare? Of course I have to do it all from here!!

Hopefully you've got this sorted, but I can't recommend the midwives at Birthcare enough. I was with them last time and they were awesome. I ended up at Auckland hospital to actually give birth because of the size of DS. But I'm with them again this time and I'm hoping to be fine to stay there even if bubs is big.
The transfer to the hospital was no big deal (not comfortable, but you know, you're in labour, nothing is comfortable). We just jumped in the car again and went straight back after I had DS and then I was looked after like a queen for the next 3 days.
