Topic: Dropping day sleeps Posted: 31 July 2009 at 6:44pm |
How old was did your toddler drop their day naps?
Mine have been resisting for about a month now. They never show any tired signs during the day anymore and I just put them to bed at 1pm and it takes on average 1h30 for them to settle. In the last week I've had to go in every time and sing to them. Today that didn't even work *sigh*
There's a chance are it could be them in the same room. I'm going to borrow a portacot to test that theory next week.

Daniel has been resisting his for the last 2 months really. But everyday after lunch he still gets put in his room for 1h30 to 2h for "time out". Sometimes he goes to sleep, sometimes he just looks out the window lol. Either way its quiet time for both of us

Aaaaaaaaaaaages ago.
Months and months, so long ago I can't remember!
I would love to put him in his bedroom for some timeout for a little while but I don't trust him in there, and no matter how many things I make safe or remove or adjust, he still manages to break something/hurt himself/throw things out the window.
We have a set time during the day, after lunch where we put a DVD on and he is to sit on the couch with his Thomas and Friends pillow and his blankets and watch quietly and try not to get up. He usually has a cup of milk to quieten him down and I just shut the curtains and make it quite dark for him. If I am super super lucky he will actually go to sleep and will sleep for a good couple of hours, but this is rare, like once a week at best. If he does that, that's it, I go straight to sleep on the couch!

Bella was about 18 months old *sigh*.
Maybe once a week I get a sleep out of her, but only if ALL the conditions are right! I'm better to just put a DVD on and let her 'blob' on her couch and then have an earlier night as its like beating your head against a brick wall trying to get her to sleep.
On the upside, she has no problems at night and I don't hear a peep from her from 6pm till 7am the next morning!

Yeah Spencer started fighting his around 18 months and now he has a sleep maybe once or twice a week. I am more likely to get him to have a nap if I wait until 1.30-2pm to put him down. I also sometimes put him to bed earlier for the night if he misses his nap and is losing it.
He has recently got heaps better at playing by himself though so he will quite often just go into his room and play with some toys and then come and find me when he wants something which has made things a lot easier for me as it use to be impossible to get anything done. If he is being a bit precious and won't sleep then I find a snack that takes a while to eat, like a packet of raisin, and a dvd and we snuggle up on the sofa or he sits on his little couch.

*sigh* Thanks ladies!
It's far from 'quiet time' when they're both in their cots, party central.
Feels like yesterday that they transitioned from 2 sleeps to 1 sleep. Why do they go and change things that work well for all of us!

Chloe went through a phase a while ago where she just battled her nap time so we just dropped it. I would put her to bed later in the afternoon, around 3pm or 4pm at the latest if she was really tired, and it never seemed to affect her 7pm bedtime, even if she didn't wake until 6pm and had tea and went back to bed, she would still go to sleep by 7/7.30pm.
And then, last week, she magically started wanting her 1pm nap again. She only sleeps for an hour but I *heart* that nap so much. She has kept doing it for a week and a half now... I thought that nap had gone and I'm so happy it's back!
ETA: After a lot of battling I decided that if Chloe was happy to stay awake, then she didn't need to go down for a nap. If she got tired/grumpy then she was put in her cot, even if it meant some crying. It seemed to work for us.

That's the approach I want to take too LB. I was getting so stressed when they wouldn't sleep. Now I just need to relax and enjoy the hysterical laughter that comes from their room. lol!
