Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone can offer any experience or advice about bleeding in early pregnancy.

I'm 10 weeks pregnant. Three weeks ago I had a really heavy bleed, went to the A and E who did an internal examination and told me my cervix was open and that I'd had an incomplete miscarriage that would progress. The bleeding stopped the same day and became (sorry if this is too much info) really really heavy brown blood with clots etc.
I was referred to the Early Pregnancy Unit that Monday to arrange and ultrasound for consideration of a d and c. The ultrasound showed the baby was fine, healthy heartbeat etc and found no cause for the bleeding.
I've had the same brown blood since then - persistent for three weeks. It's heavy enough to need to wear a pad each day. I've had another scan since which showed the baby growing well and everything to be fine. My GP keeps telling me it is nothing to worry about - brown blood is not a worry.
But it is a worry. I don't understand how it can't be a problem. It's coming from somewhere!
Has anyone else had this kind of persistent bleeding in early pregnancy? Is it as normal as everyone keeps saying?

Hi there, I didn't have persistent bleeding, I had a bleed that last around 8hrs and brown for a couple of days after that. I found out later that it must have been caused by an irritant to the cervix. In my case the midwife thought sex to be the culprit. everything after that was fine and now i have the most gorgeous 7 month old girl. If your docs and telling you that everything is fine and you're having scans and baby is fine. I would not be worrying (I know it's easier said than done, believe me) but you're putting yourself in an even worse situation by sitting and worrying constantly. Round your friends, family and partner and organise some things to do that you'll enjoy, to take your mind off things.

I had bleeding in all 4 of my pregnancies, cause unknown. I had 3 healthy babies born & 1 m/c.

All the best.

Thanks so much for that. I am going to try and not worry.
Saw my GP again today who is sending me to a specialist - apparently they can organise different scans which might give us some more info.
Keeping fingers crossed :-)

Hope all is going well, it is hard not to worry when bleeding during pregnancy but try to keep yourself busy with things that are not stressful.

Take care
