and Jett has been horrid!!  I don't know what's wrong with him!!  He grizzles/cries ALL the time, and has not had an afternoon sleep since Saturday (besides maybe half an hour late yesterday avo).  He still has a morning sleep for about 1.5 hrs.

He's never been like this for so long.  I only need to look at him and he pulls this grumpy face and starts grizzling.  I'm getting soo tired of it.  He's had a runny nose for about a week, which is clear.  He doesn't have a temp, and still eating ok.  He still sleeps all night thankfully!

But it's doing my head in!  Is it a 18 month hormonal change or something?  He's normally very happy majority of the day and I hardly hear him cry unless he's hurt himself.  But it's just a constant gizzly cry.

What's wrong with him??

Italiah, Bella has been like this for ages...maybe its an 18 month old transitional thing ??!!

In the end, a lot of it for Bella was 4 teeth coming through all at the same time. That combined with a new baby arriving and not sleeping AT ALL during the day, made for one grumpy girl.

Perhaps Jett is adjusting to just taking one nap during the day? I know it takes them a while to get used to cutting down a nap as they aren't really ready, but they also don't need the extra sleep...Have you tried keeping him busy by distracting him with different things to do?

It sucks though, some days I feel like a broken record with Bella with all the 'no's' and 'don't touch' and 'get out of that'...toddlers sure know how to press your buttons!!

Jett's 4 eye teeth have all come in recently and he was no problem through all that.  I haven't tried looking in his mouth to see if the last molars are coming through, maybe that could be it.  But he's never been any trouble with teething before.

Sounds really rough in your household though, Shell.  I feel for you!!!

Samara is the same. I even took her to the Dr's because I thought there must be something wrong with her but she was fine.

Ella was the same at around 17 months- I even took her to the doc coz I was worried, but the doc had one look at her mouth and said she was definitely teething and it was the first of the molars coming through (these teeth were definitely the worst so far to come through and when i look at them now I know why they must of hurt her coz they are so big).

Yeah I've been contemplating taking him to the Dr as well, I was thinking he has(!) to be sick to be acting so horridly!  But I thought if he wasn't well, I truely would know, as he would (hopefully) be sleeping better, and would go downhill.  I think the next time he's having a screaming fit over nothing, I'll check his gums and see if any molars are coming through.

Cooper is going thru the same thing at the moment. It didn't really help that he did get a virus in the middle of it. He's started having really bad tantrums (which I just walk away from or ignore) and he makes this horrid noise when he can't get things his own way or he's having trouble communicating to me what he wants... maybe that's Jett's problem? He's trying to "talk" to you but he can't. Cooper makes certains noises which I can understand, usually it's when he wants something like a drink or something.

Could he be missing Rico now that he's back at school?

I would suggest it could be teething, as Mum2Ella said the molars can be alot more painful as they are bigger and flatter and don't seem to cut the gums as easily. Maybe next time he is grizzly give him a dose of pamol and see if that helps.

Good luck, I know how tiring it can be!

Yup Jaymie has been horrid too! I describe it as 18 month old puberty. She has six teeth coming through all at the same time, 4 of which are molars, and she also has a cold. Add to this the fact that she does not walk or crawl and you have a very frustrated young Lady! But a breakthrough! Two days ago she started bum shuffling and man is she happier! But her sleeping has gone to the pooh.

Lachie is the same at the moment, good as some days but a total grizzler others, is sleeping ok during the day but has been an absolute shocker during the night - I miss my 7-7 boy. He just has his molars to come in and he was dribbling heaps the other day so I thought I might try a dose of pamol before bed tonight. I just keep praying it is a short phase because I am over it!

Sorry no help at all!

Check the gums - the molars are the only teeth we have had issues with here. But I wonder with having had a cold, if he has an ear infection? Usually that would make them more sleepy (in my experience) but it is worth ruling out. Once you have ruled both out you may need to do some tough love (if you are going to be grizzly, you can sit in the hallway/bedroom until you are happy etc).

The times that any of my kids have had an ear infection, they go downhill really fast and have a bad time at night and are pulling on their ear.  Jett hasn't done any of these things, so I'm pretty sure it's not an ear infection.  I can't see any new teeth or swollen gums so don't think it's the teeth either.  He has been better today thankfully, and he had 2 sleeps - yay!

It helps to know other toddlers are going through the same phase, so thanks girls for letting me know!

Lochys doing the same, inc waking 2-3times per night, I looked in his mouth and I can see 4 molars and 2 eye teeth coming up, He's been a grump for the last 10 or so days... so hopefully it is just teething!
