So my MR 2 has found that he has strength. how do you teach a 2yr old to be gentle? He comes up to his baby brother & i know he just wants to show affection & stuff, but is really rough. Leans on him too hard or pushes him or kicks him. i know he loves him to bits as he always gives him hugs & kisses, but how do we teach him that bubbee is not as hard as he thinks & he needs to be soft/gentle?
its not a nice situation! kayla was like that with other kids real loving a little rough on the cuddles- squeezed a bit tight! lol- then she was getting pushed away which eventually lead to her being rough to all kids. teaching her to be gentle is very testing.
towards their wee baby brothers is a bit different cause the little ones dont fight/push back.
i think the best way is to show them what to do, show them how to be gentle? make a deal of them being gentle as opposed to being rough?
whats worked on one of my kids hasnt worked on another though (lol) so someone else may have some good advice.
i was told by plunket it can sometimes be an attention thing, if they do get rougher cause the get a reaction from mummy or daddy.
goodluck chonny!! hope that things are going good for you and your gorgeous family :)
thanks ladies, what we can't work out is he knows to be careful with certain things but seems to not realise that his baby brother is one of those things.
We just manage Mikey in that we know we can't leave him with Ems we talk about being gentle etc, but I think they for get at there age so jsut have to keep reminding them and kee pa very close eye on them we tend to keep ems on hte flood alot more then the bouncer etc cause she seem's to be much safer as they be tipped put of the floor.
i have tried the holding his hand etc & showing him how gentle is. has worked a bit with a fe reminders. i find nowhere is safe with V & D except for D beins on the change table up high.
