My doctor has just called and told me I have low immunity to rubella. She told me to keep away from sick people. I am a teacher so this will be impossible. I'm six weeks pregnant at the moment will be eight weeks when back at work. Really worried and upset about this. Anyone been in a similar situation? Wish I had had a blood test before ttc.

Sorry to hear about the stress! I found out I was only borderline immune when we were about to start trying and had to make the choice to either hold our plans for a few months to get the jab, orgo ahead and try without having the booster. I am also a teacher and did in the end decide to get the booster. Having said that I did a huge amount of reading about it and read that rubella is virtually non existent now in NZ, so my understanding is that it would be incredibly unlikely to get it. Also the risk to the baby reduces significantly past a certain number of weeks so you can breathe a little easier after that point (you'd need to look that number up). Anyway not sure if I was any help but thought If share what I found out. :)

Obviously if your class have all had the standard mmr jabs that would also be reassuring. Just another thought.

Thanks for the reply and reassurance bubs2014. Unfortunately many of the kids in my class don't have very good access to healthcare, I'm going to read through their enrolment info though and see which ones haven't been vaccinated. One good thing is I will be past 8 weeks when I get back to school so over the most vulnerable stage at least.
