Does anyone have any recommendations for midwives in Oamaru?? I am almost definitely moving there in the new year.

Findamidwife website lists only two, both are actually based in Dunedin!! No one has listed one on the thread further below either. I know Oamaru has a primary birthing unit, so there MUST be midwives who live in Oamaru!!?? Obviously I will go in person and find out when we are in the area, but I would love to be able to contact some soon if only I could find any!! :-)

Hi Flyingduster, unfortunately I can't recommend anyone as I'm in a similar position myself. I was wondering if you'd found anybody yet that you could recommend. My midwife is Dunedin based (I plan to birth at Queen Mary) and I had explained to her from the beginning I live about and hour out of Dunedin and she was very willing to work with us regarding 3rd tri and post-natal apps but she dropped a bomb on me this week asking if I'd thought about getting an Oamaru midwife for post-natal apps, she's taken on more clients and doesn't think she can travel this far now, I'm so gutted as it was hard enough to find someone who'd work with us in the first place and she's left it til I'm 25 weeks to bring it up and we'd really clicked too, or so I thought. When I checked the College of Midwives register for Oamaru only about a dozen of the 50 odd listed had current practicing certificates and although I have a couple of names I have no details of experience or contact details at all. I can't believe how hard it is to find someone in the area. If you've had any luck I'd love it if you could let me know. Thank-you :)

Hi ladies, I was going to send you to the Otago Midwives website, as it lists most of them, and when they are available etc, but I just had a look and there is only one listed for Oamaru, some of the Palmerston ones might be of help? www.otagomidwives.co.nz

Thanks for your message Spitfire19. Most of the ladies that work in Palmerston are Dunedin based midwives and Palmerston is as far north as most of them go. Also there's nowhere really for meetings to take place unless they made some agreement with the local Plunket people. I guess most women in the area are going on word of mouth as I've found it very hard to find any info online at all. Thanks again though, it was really nice of you to look into it
