Today I've been at mums, so she could look after him while I study and when I popped him down for his nap in the portacot he packed a real tanty about it. So went in to comfort him after about 10 mins of screaming and as soon as I went near the portacot he started screaming again so I put him down in the single bed that was in the room and he went straight to sleep.

He slept really well and stayed exactly where I had put him and woke up nice and happy..

Made me wonder if hes ready for a big bed or not? If that's how hes going to sleep in a big bed then I'm all for it.

Are there any signs that I should look for that he could be ready? I'm not worried about safety as he gets down from our bed perfectly fine and our bed is quite tall.

We have the bed and not the mattress just yet so I'd have to get that first.

See how he goes tonight when you put him down for the night.. if he gets upset then perhaps he is ready.

Conor was about his age when he went into a big bed...with no problems.

He is doing a Josh. We moved him after we had those tanties and he has been an angel in bed.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I'm thinking I might go looking for a mattress later in the week/weekend and see how much its going to cost. We have to get it sooner or later anyway and get a matress protector and set it up in his room and leave the cot in there too and then I can try him for day sleeps if he packs a tanty

Sounds like he might be ready to me!!

Does your cot change into a toddler bed at all? That's what we did with Maddie and she has been great!

You could probably even try the cot mattress on the floor for a day or two to see if he takes to it. The time I transferred to big bed was when they could climb up and down it safely but I have been surprised at how still little 1yos seem to stay in bed - even if they didn't in the cot!
