yay! finally got a big bed for my eldest daughter 19 months( as my little 3 month old was still sleeping in a port-a-cot and needed the cot)
now, i knew this was going to be a battle as she is well known to be a 'spirited' gal and makes herself heard when things don't go her way. i prepared myself for a long night (as was told when i went into a bed at 14 months i got up something like 58 times....) but i got dad to put her to bed and he only had to go in 6 times.....albeit with a lot of crying, screaming tanties! (dad is usually a pushover so was a good exercise for him too!) i think it was about a 50 minute missionall up...here's hoping tomorrows better...
although i'm dreading her daytime sleep...if there will be one !!!
does anyone have any drama stories like this? how did you cope with the transition and any tips for the next few nights!!??
I transitioned Gaby into a toddler bed at around.. 19 months I think? Was hell for about a week - so I gave in & put the cot sides back up. When she was 22m we moved to a new place & I decided to put her straight into a single bed & luckily it has gone without a hitch.
I think you just have to be REALLY consistent & try not to give in, and make sure she's in a relatively relaxed mood when she goes to bed (lol i know that's a lot easier said than done some nights!!!)
We have just moved ds into a big bed, at 20 months. We tried at 18 months and got up a million times, he didn't go to sleep until 11.33pm, so the next night we gave him 2 chances in the big bed then put him in the cot, this happened every night for weeks, so we gave up on the big bed, even though every night he asked to sleep in it. He is a crazy sleeper though and started waking himself up banging his head on the bars of the cot.
So one night while he was in the bath (dh was watching him) I packed the cot away, I put his top sheet from the cot, width ways on the bed, put his cot blankets & cot pillow in the big bed as well. We were expecting a terrible night but he got into bed, snuggled up with his muslin & his giraffe and went to sleep. We were shocked lol the next night was the same. It has been relatively easy since then, we now have to shut his door which we never did with the cot & we have to take his change table out every night otherwise he climbs up it, some nights he gets up and plays for a bit, but he always gets back into bed to go to sleep :)
I think they just need to be ready & understand that the bed is bed now instead of the cot.
We got Gabrielle her big girl bed a few weeks back and so I set it up in her room ready to go but I wasn't going to put her in her big bed untill next year when we would need cot for new bub. However - Miss Independant actually chose to sleep in the bed! She would climb into it at nienies time and so we let her (I was terrified she'd fall out and padded up the ground but she sleeps so peacefully in it - not like the cot in which she used to bang her arms and head on in her sleep) so even though I think shes real young I have left her to it. She sleeps way better now too! Guess was easy for us cos she 'chose' it...??
so far so good...
she is a gem at night time...but the day sleeps sometimes don't happen....!
right at this very moment she's playing in her room...not much sleeping going on! maybe a sign that day sleeps will be no longer.... i hope not!!
