Topic: She wont drink.. Posted: 19 October 2008 at 11:14am |
ANYTHING apart from formula, what can i do??
She wont drink from a sippy cup at all even if it is formula. I drank out of her sippy cup for a whole entire day hoping she would want to drink out of it because i have! But no.
She wont touch water, juice nothing. As soon as she gets in in her mouth and realizes its anything but formula she spits it out!
Can i ask, what would watering down her formula do? Almost like weaning her onto water.. Do you think i could do that?
TIA

you have to perservere... with all my kids i just give them a sippy cup in their highchair and they all spat it out to start with too... i wouldnt water down the formula in case it affected the taste and she refuses to drink that too. the other thing my kids love drinking out of is water bottles, like those mini pumps... i cant ever have one of my own any more.

Ella loves those pump bottles as well- drives me crazy as she makes such a mess with them, but might be worth a go.

Tom would only drink out of the Tommee Tippee cups with the Nuby spout (find them at the warehouse). the spout is really soft. He now has a "drink bottle" form (ie..no handles) and he goes through at least 2 of those ea day with just water. Have you tried her with ice cubes in a fresh food feeder? Tom would eat/drink those when he wouldnt touch water.

She hates ice becuase its so cold, i thought maybe its just cold water she doesnt like, and gave her some room temp. She didnt touch that either.
We have one of those nuby cups too Nikki, and a straw one. Im going to try the pump bottle idea today :)

Tom is hopeless with the straw one. He keeps tipping it right up and then nothing goes up the straw. How is she with a cup....no sipper?

Bella loves drinking out of her water bottle - we just bought a cheap one from Pak n Save ($3 or something). Her drinking has improved out of sight since then...

I have the same issues with Sam, but he LOVES the mini pump bottles, and will sit there happily drinking out of it, the only thing he has to work on is tipping it up far enough to get any water out of it. But it's definitely what works in this house! It's the same with those mini kids juice bottles you can buy, I just water it right down so he gets a taste and he is happy with that.

Amy nearly drove me mad when I was trying to get her to drink water. She did not want to know and sounds a lot like what you are going through now. We had just about every cup on the market . I would advise to just keen offering plain water with meals and hope that it is a fairly warm summer. That is what finally did it for us - as the weather warmed up she got thirsy and drank more. Now she drinks heaps of water and we don't give her anything else.

How is she going, Kandice? Have you got her to drink water or anything else?
I had no problems with Briahna drinking from the sippy cup really so no advice from me. But the pump bottle sounds like a good idea cause Briahna skulls water from them but would only drink little bits out of a sippy cup!

Ok, so i think it may have been my fault shes not drinking water She still has 3 bottles, 200ml a day.. I dropped her lunch one and replaced it with water and she drunk the whole bottle!!
Now to move onto the cup. I bought a pump bottle and she likes to drink out of it but it flows so fast and she hates that..

She'll get used to it...Bella still chokes now and then when she tries to suck back too much at once! I find the best thing to do is to always have it visible (amongst her toys or on the floor) that way when she is thirsty she will be able to grab it herself, or as Bella does, points and jumps up and down
