Topic: I thought it was a Wives Tale! Posted: 18 September 2008 at 12:48pm |
I thought the Equation about the doubling your childs height at Age 2 was an Old Wives tale..however it seems its not and is very accurate!!!
I am going to have giants....WAY TALLER THAN ME!
Paige is 9...weighs 42kg and is up to my chin...(I am nearly 6ft)
Blake is just over 2..weighs nearly 21kg and is 98cm tall.....
Brennan is already longer now by 3cm than Blake was but weighs less!
Yikes....
How do your bubs measure up...Any Basketball Players in the making????

I can't remember the measurements (we did the calc when she had her 2yo plunket check) but she's definitely well on the way to outgrowing me. At nearly 2 1/2 she already reaches my waist (granted I'm only 5ft tall).
I read somewhere that the equation is fairly accurate but other factors can influence it such as diet and childhood illnesses.
ETA: Maybe because my coeliacs was undiagnosed until I was 26 I was robbed of extra height, had I not been malnutritioned because of the coeliacs who knows how tall I could have been.

It worked out perfectly for me and my bro- mum couldnt beleive that I was only gonna be 5ft3, when she is 5ft 11- but it turned out right!
I have booked Isla's 2 year check right before her birthday so I can double her height too. She wont be tall, but double her last height measurement is already taller than me.

Seems acurate for Bailey - hes not going to be as tall as DH and hes of average height now.
Astins not 2 yet but going by his constant ginormous weight gains to date - he is going to be taller than DH! (6ft 4), everyone in DHs family keep saying Astins built like a brick S**t house like his uncle B was at that age and he is now 6ft 6!
poor Bay got my short jeans! lol

My poor sades is going to be 6ft 4 so defintely a models height here . Lesieli is going to be 5ft 7 which she is aleady nearly my height so not suprised. Will be interesting to see what Alize is going to be, He defintely isnt going to be as tall as sades as he has always measured shorter but then he could have made up for it in the last 6mths so his 2 year check will be interesting.

What is the formula?
Elle's height was at the 15th percentile, now it is at the 45th. I'm just over the 50th as is everyone in my family and DH is 6"4 so it is strange to have a shorty!

Don't you just double it?
Nyah is going to be 5ft 7
Conor is going to be 6ft 2 and he's nearly there.
Cooper well haven't done him yet but i quite often get told he's tall for a one year old.

Just got Michaela's plunket book. She had her check at 23 mo and she was 13.25kg and 84cms. Which means her adult height should be 168 cms (not sure what it is in ft and inches but it'll make her 14 cms taller than me).

Poor Keira has my short Genes.
At 2 she was a teeny 78.5cm. So going by that she may just pass her mummy by 1 inch.
Im only 5ft (or 153cm) so she still going to be a shorty.
Maddi may have more of a chance of getting some height from her grandfather (he's 6'5!) as she seems to be right up on the 75% for her length.
I just found my plunket book and at 2 I was 76.5cm so that would make me exactly 153cm incrediably accurate, I must say!

ok Josh was 87cm at 2yrs - so double it and he would/should be 174cm... WRONG'!!!
He is 6ft 3in at 15 and hes still growing....
As for Brooke she was.. (85.5cm and that will make her 171cm - which could be right... I am 173cms.
Rhylz seems to be on par with Josh.

Maya was 92cm so will be around 184cmish, I'd believe it coz she is tall for her age and has huge paddle feet which are often an indicator of height. Gremlins were measured last week at 23 mths and were 83.5 and 84.5 so will be quite a bit shorter than Maya. They're pretty average I think, have always hovered around the 50th whereas Maya has always been above the 97th.
Mum did it for my brother and worked out he'd be 6'4" so she thought it was way wrong. He's now 6'5".

Jo, 168cm is 5'7" (or 5'6 1/2" to be more accurate but I like the other one best )
I am just shocked at Blake's height! Briona is 96cm as of today but she turned 3 in July! Kryssi will be 2 in January, so far she is 86cm so x2 = 172cm. Yea I'd believe that. She's always been quite tall and she'll definitely pass me. Hannah at 2yrs worked out to about the same as me (168cm) from memory. She's average. Briona falls about halfway in between.

I have a basketball player, or lock in the making here!! At Rico's 2 yr check, he was 99cm! So 1.98cm. He is soo freakin' tall now, it's not funny, he stands at my boobs! And I'm 1.68cm tall. He was very long when he was born, and he seriously hasn't stopped growing. He's in size 6-7 clothes and size 13 shoe. So the big size 1 next!

yeah miss paris is pretty tall considering me and mike are only 5ft 2 - she already comes up to where my underwire for my bra sits. and she's only 5.
Ayja's a bit shorter.
Following that theory i should have been at least 6 ft. my older sister is that tall. I was well on the way but then kinda stopped once i got into gymnastics full on - i truely beleive that such rigorous training robbed me of my height!

i have a Bball player in the making! Doubled his height at 2 and it looks like he will exceed 6ft 3! both his grandads are 6ft 4 so its no wonder! his dad and me are both 5ft 8.
Xavier has been over the 97% graph in the plunket book since 6 weeks for both height and weight. hes well proportioned just big. everyone thinks he is 4 which frustrates him because he cant talk very well yet. i think he put all his effort into physically growing before mentally developing

My boy at his 2 year check was 90cm....I am so hope it is going to be true, he will be 180cm not sure what that is in ft etc.
I am only 154cm.....I would hate for my boy to be a short bum like me!
He is already in a size 9 shoe!

Joshua was 102cm at 2 years, so looks like he's fast on the way to being an All Black
He was on the 97th percentile when he was born (57cm), and at 12 months he moved up into the white space above the chart in his Plunket book and hasn't moved from there.
I'm a short arse (5'3 1/2), DP is about 5'11, but on both sides of my family the men are all really tall - tallest being about 6'6.
