Hi everyone,
i am currently 22wks pregnant with our first baby. At the 20wk scan we were told a little cyst has appeared under the baby's chin. We've just had our referral appointment with specialists, but they really arent too sure so have now been referred to Wellington hospital where they'll do a more ddetailed scan. I haven't been worried but tonight am starting to get a little concerned. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks

Hi poppy101, I have no experience with this, but hopefully the scan goes well for you guys. Hopefully someone else here will have something to say, but sending positive vibes your way in the meantime :)

Poppy - I'd try not to worry about it. Cysts can appear on perfectly normal babies, and tend to eventually disappear.
The reason they take it seriously is that babies with chromosomal abnormalities tend to always develop cysts, so they try to do every check on babies with cysts to rule that out.
There was another lady who had a similar thing happen earlier this year, and the cyst ended up going away on its own :)

We were told there were two tiny cysts on our baby's brain at the anatomy scan. Midwife played it right down and said they were nothing to worry about and would disappear with time. At the follow up scan two weeks later, one cyst had disappeared and one had gotten a lot smaller. Hoping they have both disappeared by our final scan before due date at 36 weeks in a couple of weeks but not feeling anywhere near as scared as we were when we were first told. Trust your midwife...If she says it's nothing to worry about then it really isn't.
