...do you just put them in underwear and go for it?

Would you expect that they would probably have a few days of 100% accidents in their pants before they get the idea of using the toilet?

Elle announced that she's a big girl today and asked for knickers stating that her nappies are scratchy (her word for not liking the wet feeling). I did as she asked and we had a big talk about using the toilet when wees are coming etc. However, she just wet herself (and got upset) 3 times. We then went out so put a nappy on. Is this was usually happens?

Sorry if this is already somewhere else.

Yap sounds normal....just keep her in Undies and keep reassuring her that accidents are ok and we can just clean it up. And that you are very proud of her being in undies and being a big girl. Kids are soooo smart..they get the idea pretty quickly!

My DD still has the occational accident!!

What I've been doing with Zac is putting undies on him and then pull-ups over the top so that when he has an accident he knows he is wet but his clothes still stay dry, and he is having practice pulling up and down his undies and pull-ups.

We haven't started yet *gulp* but a friend recommended the bright bots training pants for when we do - they catch a bit more of the wees than regular cotton undies. She found them great for her DD.

Elle just gets really grouchy when I mention sitting on the toilet and that is what is making me hesitant to start. She is one of those kids who has to decide to do something herself...if she doesn't decide then she will be 100% anti it. I'm really sick of hearing her complain about her nappy being uncomfe though and know she'll be much happier when she is able to be dry.

I guess it's best to stay at home for a few days when you start trying....?

Go for it, warts 'n all. If she wants to give up then sigh with relief and go back to nappies, but she will have the grounding to pick it up again when she is older.

In answer to your question, Hannah TT in 8mos (yes it was wearying!!) and Briona TT in 2 weeks . Hannah was 2yrs and Briona was 2 1/2 years but Bria probably 'got it' easier having watched Hannah.

So, you probably already know but be positive. When it's an accident just clean it up and reassure her that it's alright and we'll try again next time. If it is really getting to you, you could try toileting her every hour and seeing if that helps. I tried that first off the bat with Briona but she got very upset at me and I had to let her have her head! Even though when she started out, she wet every 30 mins .

When she tells you 'wees' in time and manages to get it on the toilet (or potty is probably easier for her height to manage), sing her praises and give her a nice colourful sticker on her hand. She'll love it.

We went straight into knickers and stayed home for about 2 weeks.
There were a lot of accidents in the begining but we just showed her that it's ok and Mummy will clean it up. I even found one accident in the loung where she had got a cloth and tried to clean it up herself lol lucky for us we have wooden floors.

She was always fine with sitting on the toilet but took ages to tell us that she wanted to go, rather than telling us I've just been. But these are all the normal stages of TTing.

My only advice would be that if you're going to TT don't keep putting her back in nappies or else you're confusing her and telling her it's ok to have an accident some times. Just my thoughts
