Topic: Breakfast & Dinner Ideas Posted: 25 August 2008 at 1:35pm |
I need some Breakfast & Dinner ideas for a very fussy 2 y/o.
He loves chicken nuggets and chicken tenders but doesn't eat veges or potatoes (unless its chips) and won't eat "proper" meat.
Any ideas??
I do offer him veges & what we are having every night but usually veges just get thrown or pushed around.

You could buy chicken mince and then grate carrot/cougette or add mix vege to it,...then shape it into meatballs or fingers and coar with bread crumbs.

Does he like bubble and squeak??? Daniel looooves that and its a good way of adding some vege. And it doesn't "look" like vege so it's probably why toddlers like it lol

mash spud, carrots and peas and I'm sure there is other stuff in them too in like a fritter type thing. I'm too lazy to make them myself so I buy them ready made. Daniel loves them cause he can hold them and eat them with fingers

i find spag bol, and pasta goes down well, as does home made nuggets, and rissoles

have a roast chicken and veges and take portions off and freeze for dinners for him...cover in gravy before you freeze it...Ella loves her roast dinners.
breakfasts...how about waffles and pancakes...we always have some of the premade frozen ones in freezer - just in case...or for brunchs on weekends
dinner - mac n cheese, pasta lightly coated in sauce or pesto annlet him eat with his fingers iffhe wants to
Ella had a slice of cheese and an avocado and a yoghurt for dinner the other nite...what the hey....

I made Jack breadcases with mince or bacon and egg. You could add some peas, corns, mixed vege. I cooked them up and then frozen them. He seems to like them
ETA: and I made a meatloaf and put veges in it. Cut it up into smaller slices and froze it (do you get the idea I like to make in bulk and freeze!!)

Coop loves his meatloaf. So easy to make and once it's cut into little cubes he just feds himself. Great way to hide lots of veggies too.

Linelle............ Blake is exactly the same.....the only dinner he will have the same as us is Cottage pie..its a real pain in the bum......he has gone from scoffing everything in sight when younger and noshing thru big loads of veges to eating none........
So yes ideas are good...anything is worth a go.....

We have learned to not give Joshua the same thing for breakfast every day, as he gets bored with food quite easily. We have a few choices for him - Hubbards do a great porridge with fruit (raisins, apples and apricots) which takes 4 mins in the microwave, and he loves it. Stewed fruit with cornflakes are good, weetbix with yoghurt and banana, toast..... try to keep away from the highly processed, high sugar cereals though as they cause energy slumps.
For dinners you could try things like omelettes, mini fish pies, vegetable croquettes (mash veges then roll them in breadcrumbs then bake them), homemade fish bites, homemade wedges, pasta he can pick up with a bit of sauce on it. Finger food is all good - carrot sticks etc. Ploughman type platters with some luncheon, cheese, bread etc are good too.
Good luck, picky eaters are hard work!
