I need two fillings and I was wondering if I could get it now or not. Did your gyn say it was okay to have fillings during your pregnancy? I'm planning to talk with my family dentist about this. I'm in my second trimester so I think I could get dental work if my gyn says. I have scheduled an appointment with my gyn on 3rd June and also booked an appointment with my dentist in Whitby on June 6th. I thought I could get a check up and then go for white fillings. Please do share your thoughts!!

Hiya, just to let you know, I had extensive dental work done in my second and third trimesters and everything was fine, I had so many needed that I had four or five visits a month apart.
My ObGyn said that if I needed dental work then to absolutely get it done as pregnancy can make any cavities worse (something to do with hormones etc etc). My dentist preferred not to do it in my first trimester.
Hopefully that puts your mind at ease.

Thank you for the reply. I think I will get it done in my second trimester. I also heard some dentist won't do any dental work even in third trimester. Is there any complication? Since this is my first time I'm really worried about every little thing.

I think you should check with you doctor if you are that concerned. But as far as my Obgyn told me, no there is no complications, they encourage you to have the dentistry work if you need it.

Pregnancy can be really bad for dental health (hormones, changes in circulation etc). In the UK, it's free for pregnant women to go to the dentist.

As far as I'm aware the only thing they're a little concerned about is x-rays. They'll do them if necessary as the amount of radiation is so small and you'd need to be having a huge number of them to be worried, but it's one of those things that they like to avoid if it's not needed.

I had a root canal when I was six weeks pregnant. My OB said it was safe and even the x Rays would be ok. He told me that infection would be far worse for me and the baby. Now 31 weeks with a healthy bub and no tooth ache!
