Daniel was starting to constantly sleep through 7-7. He use to be pretty good and sleep from 7-5ish and then need a small feed and go back to sleep but I've got his eating sorted so I know hes getting enough food to last the 12 hrs.

He's teething at the mo, I can see 2 bottom teeth more than I could a week ago. I think one is cutting at the mo.

We give him fenpaed before bed. And if he wakes in the middle of the night chewing or pulling at his mouth we give it to him again.

But he's waking every morning at 5:30am and he's not hungry and he will go back to sleep easily and quickly if in our bed. After 4 mornings of the same thing I don't want him getting into a bad habit of it. I'm fine with CC. But not so much with CIO.

I don't think its his teeth waking him up at this time but it's hard to tell. Would you just go in and check and tell him its still night time and let him try go back to sleep by himself??

I want to do this but when he cries I feel like a right mean mummy cause I'm not 100% sure that he's not in pain

Thats a hard one not knowing whether he is genuinely in need of extra comfort or just trying it on. I think I would probably wait until those bottom teeth come through and then get mean with him if it continues.

I think I would be the same as cuppatea. Everytime Ollie has got new teeth we have had a bad patch of sleeping. I always worry we are getting in to bad habits but it has always just come right by itself without having to do CC or anything. Maybe just wait another bit longer and see what happens. Can you settle him in his own bed rather than bringing him to yours otherwise or is that just a big pain! (especially seeing as it is winter and cold!!)

He doesn't settle in his own bed after that 5:30am wake up. He just grizzles constantly or really screams. After me getting up about 3 times DH goes and gets him and brings him into us just so we can go back to sleep. Every other wake up he will go back down in his cot though.

I might ride it out til the weekend. I don't know if these teeth are actually going to come through this time or not. I've seen his gums down there really red before and would have sworn they would come through but nope. He won't let me have a good look either little monkey just tries to bite me if I try!

It is easier for me to bring Jack into our bed. It may be creating a 'bad habit' but at the moment I want sleep more so I will worry about the possible bad habit later

Just some useless info for you!!!

I went to the Mothercraft Unit with Blake at 8 months as was having many issues etc with him and feeding and WHAT I thought was teething and night waking all the time ...however very quickly learnt from the very very experienced staff there that have reformed MANY thousands of little people.................... that teething does not cause as much pain as we all blame it for in fact per tooth it probably causes maximum THREE days irritability!!!....They showed us some really interesting research and studies about teething....which included the fact that if teething is not bothering children at all during the day...you can bet your bottom dollar its not at night and the USUAL causes for night waking is just comfort or bad habits.....This is gnerally the case for most infants over 7-8 months...food for thought.

Blake was left to CIO for two nights whilst I wore ear plugs and wondered what had hit me..Loaded full of 3 big meals during the day followed by only three big feeds of milk and that was that...after two nights of Crying and mucking around...he has pretty much never woken again in the night since then.

Thanks Kelpa!

Last night was bad, he woke 3 times before midnight which isn't so bad. But then 2 times after that. I'm very tired today. And I don't think its his teeth at all now.

I'm going to get tough on him. I'll try and get massive meals into him today so I know that he has more than enough food and then do my CC at night, if he figures out this is how it will be in the early evening rather than getting a cuddle then he may figure it out for the rest of the waking

Yea..I think for your sanity and health that being tough is what needs to happen once they are 8months or so and definitely over a year...else they just basically end up walking all over you......they are very clever these wee people and can develop some pretty bad habits.

And the thing with being a bit tough with the night routines and waking etc is its not actually being "mean or horrible" ..it is teaching them good habits.....letting you have the sleep you deserve and helping him do very important growing...as thats when they grow.....

:)

Yeah I know getting tough is ultimately going to be whats best for him.

It's just frustrating when he was constantly improving and sleeping through properly then just suddenly started with this crap.

He's a happy boy today. He actually had a good breakfast. His gums aren't red from what I can tell so I've made my plan of attack for tonight. It will probably be a tough night tonight and DH will bitch and moan about that but tough sh*t lol

ok well that was a disaster lol

Went down brilliantly as per norm. Woke at 10:30, screamed and screamed and screamed some more with us going in intermitantly. Then DH got him up at 11:45 and bought him in with us.

I'm kinda annoyed with DH actually. He kept saying "how long is this going to go on, I have to go to sleep". I told him off this morning saying its not only his sleep that is affected and he damn well better remember it . Going to try again tonight and I've told DH under no circumstance to pick him up cause as soon as he was in our room he shut up and went to sleep so hes obviously trying it on with us to sleep with us rather than in his own bed.

Hopefully tonight he will be super tired because of last night and we have swimming today.

Hmmm yes sounds like its a little Comfort game really doesnt it..which it mostly is!

Tell DH he needs to put up with it and ignore him for a couple of nights then life will be great!

Oh yes he's going to get that drummed into him. Daniel didn't even have tears after an hour of screaming which reassures me that at least hes not in pain or anything
