Topic: ummm what am i doing wrong? Posted: 19 February 2008 at 5:03pm |
Okay so we dont want to have to close of all the door to the bedrooms etc as it makes the end of the house really dark, and i dont feel i should have to move absoultely everything out of reach.
But Rhi seems to love anything that is roll on or cream (as in hand lotions, deos etc) and no amount of time out, being told off, moving it out of reach (little toad just got her chair and climbed up to it) is working.
I am slowly going nuts, she has turned into a feral demon child the past couple of months, and yes i know she is asserting her independence etc etc, but how do i tell her she cant do something and acutally have her listen to me

hahaha good luck there.
i have had to shut my door...its my sanctuary and they can only come in while i am there. otherwise they think it is fun to jump on my bed and pull ALL the linen off it, among other things!
For a while there too we had to shut the door at the other end of the house too and that made it quite dark but you get used it ... or you could use a door barrier!

ah, that phase! Hated it.
It only lasts a little while though... when it passes they seem to get into stuff less often, but more sneakily IYKWIM.
I would just move stuff - to a locked cupboard... it'll only last a few months.

I feel your pain! I have a pair oof gremlins who are much the same, except as well as deos, creams etc. they are also into anything else that they can pull out and make a mess with, I am soooo over having a constant pig sty of a house. I pretty much let them run riot in the lounge and kitchen but we do shut our door and the door to Maya's room/bathroom/laundry (all at one end of the house) so they can't wreak havoc in there.

Hate to tell you! They get worse, especially once they hit 4-5yrs. Nyah is forever putting on my YSL perfume or my makeup etc... drives me mad... the amount of lipgloss she has wasted... gah!
You'll have to close the doors, and when she gets taller and older... buy a safe!

All my makeup etc is in the top of my wardrobe which is a pain in the a*se because I use it daily and I'm only 5 foot so can't reach it easily but it also means neither can she.
When I do pull the basket down to use it she'll grab whatever she can and rub it on her face (she even tried to use my deoderant as lipstick - ew) so I've started getting a few bits and pieces that she can use while I put on my war paint. She has a bottle of huggies baby lotion, a chap stick and a few makeup brushes. I may be creating a vain child here but at least my makeup is reasonably safe... for now.

YES! I got Maya all dressed with her hair done for her first big school visit and while I was eating breakfast Miss Thang got into my drawers and put on lippy and eyeliner, she looked like a right tart!

We just shut the bathroom, kitchen and our bedroom doors... Seb is into everything he can get his hands on. The kitchen is usually filled with recycling, and he loves to throw things (glass bottles - yum) Because our useless private HNZ street doesn't do recyling (despite their policy to try their best with these things) Of course our case worker never gets back to us when we leave messages about it... So we just have to wait till my MIL has time to drive it to the recycling place, cause I'm sure as hell not throwing it all in the street skip! Also he loves to get into the bin... which is yuck. He'll be-line for it, and Mike's bike is kept in there (only place there's room for it) and he's tipped that over on himself before. Bathroom he likes to play in the toilet, and basically make a mess of all his clean nappies/wipes and up-end the washing hamper (we have no laundry) And our room has pretty much everything else he isn't allowed... One of our couches is coming apart at the seams, and he continuously tries to eat the stuffing, so that's in there... books, ornaments, clean washing, shelves.
Thankfully his room is at one end of the hallway and is kept pretty bare (just cot, bed, playtent, baby-proofed drawers and toybox) and the lounge is at the other end and also mostly bare.. though we can't leave him alone in here as he likes to *play* with the computer desks and is very good at climbing.
I Can't wait to get a 3 bedroom house with a study, laundry, curbside recycling and fenced backyard... oh the little things in life

Seb should grown out of that soon (I hope for you). Our last place was so totally baby proofed it was basically a little cell but now she's older and we've moved to a place with less stairs she's ok.
For us the difference now is she gets into things with the purpose to copy rather than just for the sake of it. Hence she has her own girly pamper stuff, her own cell phone (one of my old ones) and her own tool set. Yes we are raising a 21st century girl here

Seb has been into everything since he could crawl, and he's slow on the communication front... so I'm not holding out any hopes here. We are well and truly used to it by now though.

All of my stuff is up high, we have a wall unit on our wall in the bathroom which is just awesome. There are times that she does get into something but we have put a lock on most of the cupboards. We quite often have several little kids around so have had to be extra vigalent about locking things away or putting them up high.

Boos stillg ets into everything, but she's slowly listening to NO, James is the one we have to watch out for now haha.
We close allt he doors but the kids bathroom (so she can go to the toilet) I jsut make sure everything is away from her that is dangerous.
I think we need a net over the toilet though, the amount of toys been bathed in there is gross
