QuoteReplyTopic: Toilet train, move bed or both? Posted: 07 February 2008 at 11:43am
Michaela is getting to a stage where her cot is too small for her and she bangs against the sides.
We also think she's ready for toilet training and we would welcome anything that saves money (that $80 per fortnight we currently spend on nappies and stuff could be put to good use elsewhere).
We already have a bed and we're getting a new mattress for it this weekend plus we have padded underpants for Michaela and bought a potty seat for our toilet yesterday so we're all ready to move beds and begin toilet training but I was just thinking it might be a bit much doing both at once.
A lot of people will say it is too much but I seriously think it depends on the child and if you don't make a fuss, then she won't.
I didn't do both at once, but toilet training and moving into a new bed were not a big deal at our house so I have no doubt that she would have coped with both at once really well.
BUT be aware that toilet training could take a while so don't expect miracles - though every nappy saved is about 50c so definitely worth introducing the potty and seeing how ya go.
I agree with Nikki. You could put her in the new bed first and then if all is going well start TTing a few days after that as the bed one should be over with quickly. Rather than TTing first which could take a while. We had no issues with moving to a bed either, so I think we could have been TTing at the same time.
We had started TTing but a few days later we ended up having to out her in a big bed and TTing just became too much, and went having success with anything. In the end we gave up on TTing cos we needed to get some sleep and within a few sleeps she had settled in her big bed. Now we are still working on using the toilet but it is a lot easier on everyone without having to worry about other things at the same time.
$80 a fortnight? That's crazy! I reckon we spend about $30 a fortnite on Huggies...
Where do you get your huggies? We buy the big bulk boxes that are usually about $60 plus we buy curash and wipes so $80 is probably a slight exaggeration but not much.
p.s. Moving Michaela into the big bed was such a non-event, it was so easy and she's now back to sleeping through the night again (yay) rather than waking herself up banging against the side of the cot. In fact she loves her big bed so much she often goes up there during the day to pretend to sleep or climb under the covers and read a book (girl after my own heart).
Now we just need to TT but DH has told me he doesn't want to because we have carpets so I need to convince him first.
