Topic: Running with feet in Posted: 07 November 2007 at 1:19pm |
When Jack runs his feet point in, I always thought this was pretty normal but someone said something about it the other day and now I've noticed other kids his age don't have their feet pointed in so far. Does this really matter or should we get it checked out?
TIA

toby now at 2 yrs old runs like he has just started...all kids are diff but if you want you can always ask your plunket nurse (if you use them) if it is something to worry about.

Sounds like he could be "knock kneed". No major...for some it naturally comes right, for others they need to make a concerted effort to correct it. I was the same as a kid. :)

I asked my Dr about it a while back because Benjy has the same thing. Both his feet turn in when he walks and runs, and one is turned in all the time.
She said it was quite normal for them to be that way and often it is a comfort/habit thing but as they grow and the muscles strengthen it should correct itself. Usually by about 5 years of age.
She said that as long as you can turn them straight that it isn't usually a problem.

Caprece just had a plunket visit so I asked about it then and she said as long as hes not tripping over his feet all the time or really kicking one round it should be ok. I don't know why other people need to point out things like that it just makes me paranoid.

taine is the same rachel. I thought nothing of it until my step mum commented. they have club feet in the family so thought it might be that (no blood relations - what are they on about?)

my katie does the same but she is six and i didnt notice till some one elce pointed it out although i did think she triped her self up an awlful lot. any ways i asked the doctor and she said she has to have proper shoes with arch support to hold her feet stright otherwise when she gets older like 20s she will have knee and hip prob's. which sucks because proper shoes are expensive.

Oh yip I might keep an eye on it, I got a bit worried because he had clicky hips as a baby and was worried they weren't fixed.
The plunket nurse said I could try putting his shoes on the wrong feet if I was that worried.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter 'in toes', I never really noticed it until plunket pointed it out. We got a referral from our GP to a podiatrist. This would have been about 6 months ago. She has been fitted with 1/2 inersoles that go in her shoes and this corrects the foot position. Unfortunately it isn't just her feet, her whole leg twists in. Now that it has been pointed out, I can spot it in her baby photos too. The earlier it is looked at the better.
