    Posted: 05 November 2008 at 9:13am
I was 11 weeks on Monday and had a bit of spotting yesterday so went for a scan and there was no heartbeat. The baby was only measuring 6 weeks and so it seems that i have had a missed miscarriage.

I have a question for those that have had this, did you still have all your pregnancy symptoms?? I just find it strange that i got ms from weeks 6 till now and had the sore boobs etc too. I was also still getting pos HPTs last week?? Is this normal in this situation??

Thanks

Hi Kicker, I am so sorry to hear of your loss....it totally isnt fair!

I suffered from a blighted ovum in July of this year and I continued to get symptoms all the way along...I have heard that this is quite common.

Big hugs to you, I have received a lot of support from the girls on here so just remember we are here if you need us...

xx

Hi Laura,

Firstly im so sorry to hear that you are going through this.

my second miscarrige was a missed miscarriage, i went for a scan at almost 11wks, ( i was starting to show, had ms, boobs were sore, pos poas test), and baby had died at 6wks.

so yes you can still have all the symptoms, i choose to have a dnc and actually had it done the very next day.

if you need to chat just pm me

Hey kicker - Sorry to hear your news. Last year I had a missed m/c (I found out at my 12w scan that bubs had stopped growing at 9w). I still had some preggy symptoms, but the m/s wasn't as bad, but I just thought it was cos I was almost past my first trimester.

You will still get positive results on a HPT because of the HCG levels in your body won't have dropped back down to 0 yet (takes a few weeks, depending on how far along).

Hope you're taking it easy chicky, big hugs

Im so sorry to hear your loss hun

Yeah emachan is right, you will still get positive HPT's due to the HCG in your blood and pee. HCG may still increase because I think its produced through the umbilical cord not the sac itself. So even though baby has passed they body still thinks your pregnant and continues to produce HCG.

I hope it will end for you soon hun. My thoughts are with you

(((hugs))) Kicker. I too have gone through this and chose to have a D&C the same week. With any luck your pg symptoms will go quickly after that and give you a chance to heal. Really sorry. We'll miss you in the May Mummies.

So sorry to hear about this. This missed mc stuff really sucks. I recently had a D&C after finding that my pregnancy stopped developing at 6 weeks too. I was having early scans due to previous losses but otherwise I don't think I would have found out until the 12 week scan. It is so cruel that all the symptoms are reassuring and you think things are ok and then it turns out they are not.

Please take care of yourself.

Thanks for all your replies and support. I didnt get the D&C in the end as i miscarried naturally before the appt. Had a crap time of it though and ended up in hospital after loosing about 2L+ of blood and now just having a transfusion.

Hopefully it will all be over soon and i can go home and heal physically and emotionally.

Hi Kicker, I am so sorry about your loss. I have just gone thru the same thing. I started bleeding on Wed afternoon at work (5th Nov) and was taken straight to hosp - they then sent me home because I was 'stable'. Thursday morning we got an urgent appointment for a scan and found out that the baby had died at 8 weeks (I thought I was nearly 12 weeks) I was not able to get an appointment for a D&C until Sat morn and I thought I would have miscarried naturally but I didn't and on Sat morn I had the D&C. Like you I find it hard to understand why my body took so long to register that the baby was no longer alive, the ms had stopped but all the other syptoms, sore breasts, tiredness, cravings I still had all these.
It's a very tough time and I hope that you are coping okay.
All the best, Jo xx

Thanks bunny - i am sorry that you have to go through this too

I still find it hard to comprehend getting to 11 weeks with no idea the baby had died.

I guess what really gets to me too is that the nurses were so dimissive of how bad my bleeding was (soaking through two pads doubled up in 10mins is not normal!!!). And it took me flooding the floor and passing out to be taken seriously. Where has the caring profession gone - or did i just get a crap nurse or two??

At the moment i am thinking that i dont want to get pregnant again if there is a chance that this might happen again. If i do get pregnant how do i cope with the not knowing if everything is okay??? Maybe over time i will feel more ready but i think we are going to put off TTCing for quite a while.

Kicker I think you got crap nurses. They treated you with nowhere near the care and respect you deserve.

Not all nursing staff are like that. When I was in Chch Womens earlier this year for MC we were really impressed with the staff. Except for a couple of people (the cold, blunt woman who did my ultrasound and the orderly who spent ages telling me about his great parenting techniques until finally asking what I was there for) the doctors and nurses we saw were all consistently caring, respectful and fantastic.

We felt really looked after and it was very healing. Those nurses you saw have made an already awful experience much harder. If you have the energy I think it would be worth letting the hosp know, if not making a proper complaint.

Hi Kicker,

I lurked in the May '09 boards for awhile, but never really had the courage to post-was waiting until the 12 week mark, but didn't quite make it.

It seems that we went through the exact same thing at the exact same time. I'm just wondering how you are doing now. I didn't have to have a transfusion, but I feel like I was pretty close. The pain was the most terrible thing I've ever felt.

I thought it was all over, but I'm bleeding again after doing the deed. I just want to be done with this. Are you all finished?

Hi Goldy,

Sorry to hear that you are going through this too. All my bleeding has stopped but it did take a couple of weeks and we still havent done the deed as the hospital suggested waiting until two weeks after it had stopped.

I have to agree that it was quite painful too, i guess it is like the early stages of labour in that your cervix needs to dilate.

I hope that your bleeding stops again, but i think it is normal to stop/start a few times as long as its not excessive.

I hope you get back to normality in the physical sense soon.

Thanks for your reply Kicker (both of them). It really is so helpful to know that I'm not the only one going through this.

I think I might push my midwife to let me have a scan, if nothing else, for my own peace of mind.
