Topic: This blighted ovum thing is so not fun Posted: 23 October 2008 at 11:44am |
Well, despite having two scans at 7 & 8 weeks showing that there is a small gestational sac and no fetal pole, the hospital won't give me a d & c because my hcg levels are still rising. Basically, everyone says its very unlikely the pregnancy is viable but I am in no mans land until my hcg starts to drop or I start bleeding.
With my last two mc it was much more clear cut and I knew within 24 hours of starting to bleed what was going on. This blighted ovum thing is so not fun.

Well, looks like my hcg is starting to plateau. Its around 28000 but only went up by 50 in the last couple of days.
Apparently, the hospital said they wouldn't do testing on the POC because theres no fetal tissue and it probably wouldn't be successful. (Basically I only want the D&C so that I can have the testing done.) I've found a journal article that says the testing would be worthwhile so I might have to fight with the hospital about it. However, if I miscarry over the (3day) weekend then I won't be able to have a d&c. There is just so little I can control with all this.

More hugs
I had testing done on POC after my d and c which was a blighted ovum. They found some chorionic villae (placental tissue) but no fetal tissue.
And I had my d and c on a public holiday. Granted it was in Sydney and maybe things are different there, but I was bleeding heavily so they did the d and c straight away. I *may* have exaggerated how heavy the bleeding was just to get it over and done with...

I *may* have done something similar and *slightly* exaggerated how much pain I was in to be seen through AnE . Otherwise I probably would have waited as well and all I wanted was for it to end so I could move on.
Can you go directly to AnE armed with all your scan and HCG results and a little of the above??
Good luck hun. Im so sorry you have to go through this

My GP said they wouldn't be able to do anything at A&E over the weekend because the Womens Health Clinic does the D&Cs and they are closed. But I guess the hospital must have to be able to cope with emergency situations. I guess if I start bleeding I can try going to A&E and see what happens.
Thanks guys.

They must have on-call OB/GYN's coz someone has to deal with emergency c-sects etc.
I'm so sorry you are having to go thru all this yet again
