Topic: Waiting to miscarry? Posted: 16 April 2009 at 8:22pm |
Hi everyone.
I wish I had found this forum 2 weeks ago. My husband and I were told two weeks ago that all wasnt looking good at our 5 week scan. So it can as no shock (well not entirely true, I still had hope) when we were told that I wasnt going to carry the baby as the egg sack is misshapen etc. I have been waiting to miscarry for a week and a half, with strong period like pain off and on. My sweet husband has taken some time of to help out as Im a wee bit of an emotional wreck!
My problem is I cant take the waiting anymore and have decided to have a D&C. Im wondering if anyone has had this done privately? If so what was the cost? where etc? and If I do go publicly any tips ect? Feel very scared! Dont react well to pain relief!!
Thank you for listening to me..

I can understand why you would want the D&C, sometimes you want to have it all sorted so you can focus on healing. Not sure where you are from but have you been to the hospital to see if they can book you in? Not sure about private hospitals, have had my D&C's in the public hospital

So sorry to hear your news.
My experience is it is often the same Doctors from the private hospitals who do the public surgeries too, so the only real difference is probably a private room and more comfortable surroundings. Have you considered medical management? They can give you a pill that dilates you and helps you to expel the foetus (sorry that sounds terrible)
It only took a few hours for me then it was all over and not very painful, although everyone is different.

Hi lillasmum
sorry to hear about your situation. I'm kinda in the same boat although not officially confirmed my preg isn't viable. I found out very very early about my preg (would only be about 3 wks) and because I had spotting and some cramps they took hcg levels. They are static at the mo............they are saying its more than likely not going to happen but are monitoring me with more bloods and got told if I have cramps or bleeding to go in and see them............I feel like I'm sitting on a ticking time bomb!!! A small part of me is trying to be positive thinking if its so early then my levels may rise and all will be well but in my head I know that its probably not going to happen.
This waiting though is doing me in ............every little twinge I wonder if this is it.
So big hugs to you as I know what this horrible waiting thing is like.

Hugs to you both
lilasmum - any news?? Maybe the pills JHS mentioned would be something to look into - I think you only need panadol/pandine for pain relief. It might be easier to deal with than a DnC.
Buttermum - I'll keep everything crossed for you - a static hcg has to be more promising than a falling hcg.

I have had both...public DandC and waiting to miscarry in a different pregnancy recently... with the Dand C we got in 4 days later publically ..i didn't consider private even though i have insurance and I was treated brilliantly etc in hospital and was in and out in the same day though i nearly had to stay but that was a complication from me ....normally you go home same day after 4 hours or so.. the only thing i wished they had warned me were the horrible terms used talking about my baby and the procedure:(
anyway with the other one i waited...had no pain but a lot of blood and after 5 days got a scan and had to have no further treatment.....feel free to pm me with any questions

Hugs to you as well Buttersmum! I'm in a similar situation, although things are starting to look up, I hope. I've got a scan tomorrow so I should know one way or the other soon, but man, the waiting and wondering is so hard!

Very sad for you hun
I went private - I think it cost about $2k privately or maybe a bit less, thankfully we have southern x which paid whole lot.
It is def is a 'nice' option, despite the horribleness of why you are there.
Hugs xoxo
