hi ladies,
i seem to be asking alot of questions since i joined lol.

i think miss 2 is getting to big for her carseat.
her shoulders are now just over the top bit for the straps as she is quite tall. but she isnt that heavey(takes after her dad) so i dont know whether i can put her in a booster with one of those harness things or not. we are ona pretty tight budget and cant really afford a car seat that will only be used for a few months then out grown.

sorry for the long post.

The recommendation is 14kgs but I misread it once as 12kg so my 3yo has been in a booster since about 13kgs. In your daughter's case, providing she's at least 13kg, I think she'd be okay in a booster with the harness.

But if you're still unsure, or she's quite light, you might like to look into hiring from Plunket?

If you are planning on having a 2nd child before she is 5, it might pay to get a good one (Mum2Paris has one but I forget what the brand is) instead of a booster, and the baby can have the current one. Boosters are $70 and the harness is about the same again I think.

My 3yo is average height and weight but she was complaining of a sore back from our other seat, and with baby #3 on the way we needed to bump her up.

we have one from baby factory.. is a booster.. well, aparently it goes from birth to over 5 yrs old.. but i don't think it's well padded enough to cater for a wee baby, even if it does have the reverse facing tilt for baby position. can't remember the name.. i posted it in another post a while back but will have alook and see if i can bump it for you.

It goes up to 32 kilos i think.. the whole head rest piece moves up with the harness, which is 5-point, you can then use it with normal seat-belt after that. paris is pretty tall.. but she has heaps of room to grow in this one. will havea search for that other post.

We bought Bays current seat from the babyfactory a few months ago, he was in a capsule then a safe'n'sound seat and now his current seat is an evenflo booster seat, it only cost us $199 and will do from 9kgs till 9 yrs old (cant remember the weight???) it has the normal car seat harnesses etc but you can also take them out for when the child gets older and use the normal seat belt on itbooster seat

I think the carseat offers the best protection & have been advised to leave Brae in there until his head & shoulders have outgrown & are above the top of the seat. He weighs 15kgs at the moment & is nowhere near the top of the carseat.
They recommend boosters for 4-7yr olds(14kg-32kg)

Does your carseat have adjustable belt straps notch thingys lol(if that makes sense)?

Ethan is still in his original car seat. And yes he is over 4 yrs and over 15kgs. I still prefer to use this for safety...

For going into other cars we have a Milano Booster Seat. Unlike other boosters it is still plastic. The Headrest portion moves as child continues to grow, and it also folds in half for storage... It is suitable for a child up to ten years, Flip up arm ress, 2 cup holders..... It also uses the normal seatbelt, but has a place to put then belt in to stop it from cutting into their neck.
I didn't want one of the foam looking ones as I didn't feel they would protect Ethan if needed (Not that I ever hope that happens...again!!!) It cost $149.99 and is available from www.babycity.co.nz.

i was told by plunket (i think it was) that when they are eye level with the top of the seat then thay need to be in a booster seat bacause any taller the seat wont support their head in a accident. i have very tall kids as well so i got a booster seat from nappies for less $25 and a harness from baby factory $50 (i think) and sat her in the middle back.

Booster seats are usually recommended for ages 3+, an average weight 3yo is 14kg.

Its a Cosco Alpha Omega. We have the same one for Maya. It's great coz it has a 5 point harness that does up to 18kg and then after that you can use it with a normal seatbelt. I agree with Janine tho, even tho it can be rearfacing I wouldn't use it that way for a smaller bub.

Safe2Go has an interactive Child Restraint feature that helps you know what type of seat your little one should be in -- it's here http://www.sportzilla-competition.co.nz/child_restraints/

It gives you a diagram that tells you what to look for when fitting your child into a carseat and booster seat. Might help you decide what would be the best way to go!

ha ha you beat me to it Emma.. i just bumped that old post called "booster seats and big bubbas" and has pics of our carseat.     hhhm when we did that post you had a different one. lol, the appollo i think.. wel ooked at that one but didn't like that underneath it was basically just the polystyrene.. we wanted the sturdy plastic - ...so when did you buy the alpha omega Emma? I can't remember.. did you get your carseats back with your mummy van after it got stolen or did you have to replace them?

haleigh is getting to big for her carseat she is nearly eye level with the back of her seat and weighs 14kg and is only 19months.
i have seen boosters that have tether straps (DF refuses to use a carseat without one) and 5point harness and says for weights 9kg to 35kg which is what we are looking at getting, jsut hoping she cna hold out till shes at least 2 for us so we can get it once we've moved to OZ.
